Terrible Terrible Terrible

No other way to describe how the Skins played last night.

Game Notes

Positives

London Fletcher - By far our best defensive player, seemed to make almost all of our tackles

Antwaan Randle-El - Okay so he made a boneheaded move by not getting rid of the ball earlier on but other than that he was very effective from the slot.

Chris Cooley - Solid all round as usual made the catch for the TD.

Hunter the Punter - By far the best of the off-season acquisitions, boomed some very nice punts and got the Redskins off the mark for the season on a beautiful FG fake. Guy has some speed.

Negatives

Jim Zorn's playcalling. It was so predictable, it went run, run, pass, punt on just about every occassion. Someone should tell him that you can actually call a pass on 1st and 2nd down occassionally.

We still had our usual stupid penaltys - See Santana Moss's fight with Corey Webster as an example

Jason Campbell - Now i will admit i'm not a big fan of Campbell but last year thought he was put into some awful positions, last night it was just his own stupid decision making. He must have known that he was past the line of scrimmage so why throw the ball? Then there was the fumble he waited and waited for someone to come open when he should have stepped up and took off when the gap appeared.

Still not enough pressure on Sheli. Orakpo who is supposed to be helping our pass rush was practically non existant.

3rd down defense. I lost count of the number of times we had the Giants on 3rd down and just couldnt make the stop.

Tackling - There were far too many missed tackles, see Manningham's TD for an example of two players missing tackles.

Overall

Personally i am very disappointed in the performance and feel that the scoreline of 23-17 doesnt reflect how bad we were. The Giants let us off the hook on numerous occassions. We had no offense until the game was over and the Giants were playing prevent defense.

Need to improve drastically for next week

First England get stuffed by the Aussies at cricket,then Blues lose at home to the Villa and to round it all off the Skins are humbled by the Giants ! All in all a sporting weekend to forget.

So near yet so far for the Raiders,after scoring a 57 yard touchdown off a fourth and fourteen to put us 20-17 up with over two minutes left,The Chargers then went 90 yards downfield to score the match winning TD.
Positives;
  1. Richard Seymour got two sacks,Greg Ellis got one.Good debuts for the pair.
  2. Didn't give up a hundred yards on the ground for the first time in ages.
  3. Louis Murphy scored one TD,should have had two.
Negatives;
  1. Penalties at crucial times.
  2. JaMarcus Russells innacuracy
  3. Darrius Heyward-Bey didn't catch a ball.
  4. Starting the game with two rookie wide receivers
On the whole it was encouraging,our achilles heel our passing game was the weakness.The defence performed very well,we just couldn't make them pay when we had possession,because the Chargers didn't play well and they where there for the taking.

WOO-HOO The Raiders won against the Chiefs,but boy was it ugly! but the win is all that matters.The Raiders only had one decent offensive drive in the entire game,but it came when mattered going 69 yards in the last two minutes,when RunDMC went over from five yards to put the Raiders up 13-10.

Redskins just edge Rams 9-7 sounds like a thriller. At least Campbell threw for 242 yards but no skins TD's all game.Chalk that win up to the Defence.Still a lot of questions about Jim Zorn far from convincing.
