RE: England Fail To Win (Russia Win) 2018 World Cup Bid - cityboy76 - 02-12-2010 22:32 How are fifa going to go on in 2022 if Israel qualify for the world cup in Qatar. Qatar refuses to recognise Israel as a country. Great move Mr Blatter and your cronies. RE: England Fail To Win (Russia Win) 2018 World Cup Bid - StridentOnanist - 03-12-2010 10:26 Two votes??? Only 2 sodding votes, and one of those was Geoff Thompson. If we were pipped at the post it might be easier to stomach, but like this; it stinks!!! What the hell was the point of all the technical reports if the fifa fuckwits choose to completely disregard them? I dunno, £3m spent on the bid book alone and the fuckers don't even bother to open it. *Just added a Sepp Blatter voodoo doll to my Xmas wishlist - Gonna nail that slimy prick to the fuckin wall!!! Modern-day Qatar is founded on love of money, not religious ideology. Religious fervour? You are the one who brought it through the gates. Where did I mention religious fervour? The point I was trying to make, badly, is that Qatar, a sovereign state, will for four weeks in 2022 suspend the laws of the land and their political position, whether you agree with them or not, at the bidding of FIFA. Of course, the Israelis will be allowed to enter the country if they qualify although I'm not holding my breath that they will be invited to play a friendly match in the run up. No foreign girls will be arrested for being improperly dressed nor the jails be full of people who had one more drink than they should. As I said, whether you agree with law as it stands in Qatar, or not, for the duration of the tournament the host country is turned into a FIFA fiefdom. I expect, Budweiser, or whichever beer giant sponsors the tournament, to have their adverts prominently displayed at all the stadia which the Qataris will be expected to put up with. So, yes it is about the money. Lastly, as I said before I have no problem with Russia hosting the 2018 from a purely football point of view although reservations about a nation where one of the most prominent teams, Zenit St Petersburg, have declared that they will never sign a black player to appease their fans and Peter Odemwingie, currently at WBA, was hounded out of Russia due to racism but FIFA stated aim of expanding the game and leaving a legacy in the host country looks flimsy when the tournament is awarded to a nation of 1.6 million people who will now be building 8 world class stadia which will then be 'donated' after the tournament to deserving developing countries. And lastly lastly, it is interesting that the two bids which won both require significant amounts of stadia and infrastructure costs. If I was a cynic I might even suggest that some members of the FIFA executive might have their fingers in some of the contract pies that will handed out but because I'm not a cynic I won't. RE: England Fail To Win (Russia Win) 2018 World Cup Bid - digitalmind68 - 03-12-2010 12:06 FIFA stinks! For us to lose the bidding for the world cup to Russia, i can handle. For us to have the best technical bid, to have the potential for the most economically successful world cup ever and to have the legacy of social projects around the world, and to then be eliminated in the first round really does hurt. 2 votes?! So, many FIFA members lied to the England bidding team when they said they would vote for England. Did FIFA members actually believe that Spain-Portugal and Holland-Belgium were better bids? If FIFA have not voted for England because of the recent allegations, they haven't done their job properly. Their job is to make decisions based on the good of the game, not on their bruised egos. I don't blame our bidding team, by all accounts, they did a superb job. Same goes for our press, they were doing their job exposing alleged corruption. The blame for this humiliation lies with FIFA, with their cosy backroom deals and anti-english attitude (Platini & UEFA as well). I really hope that the press go after FIFA now and expose them for the corrupt organisation they are. If the IOC can be cleaned up, then i'm confident that FIFA can be. I think you're on to something there. Journalists up and down the country must be chomping at the bit to take FIFA down. RE: England Fail To Win (Russia Win) 2018 World Cup Bid - groundnpound - 03-12-2010 12:08 Fifa stinks. So do the Russians. RE: England Fail To Win (Russia Win) 2018 World Cup Bid - bigglesworth - 03-12-2010 12:17 It was tough that England only got 1 vote other than their own, that was quite a surprise to say the least, but Russia had the best case for getting the world cup in 2018 and FIFA therefore made the right decision. Giving it to England or Spain when they have already hosted the tournament would have been tough on Russia who never have. Plus Western Europe has hosted 10 World Cups before in total and Eastern Europe not even 1, so it was always going to be hard for FIFA to resist the Russian case that it was their turn. People in this country may be disappointed, but the decison made was the fairest decision that FIFA could make. RE: England Fail To Win (Russia Win) 2018 World Cup Bid - Captain Vimes - 03-12-2010 12:31 The bidding starts at $2,400,000,000 ..... There is only one winner every time ... I've tried to stay out of this one as i've got too much to say & it will result in me angering myself, but on what Captain Vimes is sayin, well i'm not sure Mr Bin Laden or whoever is in charge at the time will share the same undterstanding??? Oh go on then i can't help myself The BBC tv licence fee is £145.50 the English population is about 51.5m so say if 25m of us refuse to pay the silly fee untill we can try to host the world cup again in 2030 then 145.50 x 25,000,000= £3,637,500,000. That is just 1 year & with the growth in population & new home owners the sum will rise like the sun. The sums are sure to be amended by some smart arse but this is a suggested figure to show how the bbc could be punished into going out of business as i very much doubt the government will place any blame of investigation on them & the tv money earned would help pay all the big & small businesses the income they would've got if we had staged the world cup. Personally i only watch MOTD, A Question Of Sport & shows like Spooks on this channel anyway so fuck em!!!
