RE: Are Queen the greatest band of all time - Scottishbloke - 09-06-2011 20:20

Unfortunately I was never able to the real Queen in action, I was only 8 years old when they did their last ever tour, I do remember however seeing the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert when it was broadcast live on the BBC on the 20th April 1992, I was allowed to stay up late even with it being a school night, I remember being very moved by the event and when I saw just the sheer amount of big names turn out to give tribute to the man it really dawned on me just how big a loss Freddie Mercury was going to be and the music of Queen was going to be missed.

Being from a different generation to the majority of people in this Forum
(shall be giving my age away at this rate) I have seen many groups in my lifetime and IMO every decade has gr8 groups, some perform live better than others and some are better song writers.

I saw The Beatles live on three occasions but was never overstruck on their performances but as recording artists and songwriters brilliant. The Stones & The Who gr8 on stage.

ELO, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Iron Maiden, Fleetwood Mac, Beach Boys,
Queen, Metallica, Bon Jovi, Guns & Roses, U2, AC/DC, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Genesis, Black Sabbath, The Pretenders, Aerosmith, Dire Straits, The Grateful Dead, The Cure, The Police.

The list is endless so to pick one group IMO is very difficult but any group that has Eric Clapton or Steve Winwood in has to be near the top.

Sorry if I went on a bit.

And how could anybody forget the day Queen stole the Live Aid show 1 year previous, again I was far too young to remember the concert, I think I was probably outside playing with the traffic at the time or something being only 7 years old at the time Big Grin

Sorry fella, but there are a ton of groups ahead of Queen in the greatest ever pecking order. For me Led Zeppelin are head and shoulders ahead of everyone else.

As others have said, but there are a ton of artists ahead of Queen in the greatest ever pecking order. For me Chas and Dave are head and shoulders ahead of everyone else.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the passing of the late great Freddie Mercury. His last ever video here was filmed in June 1991 and was Freddie's fond farewell to the fans and singing a song harking back to happier times.

I finally saw the 'Return of the Champions' gig they did in 2005 with Paul Rodgers, and to my surprise it was actually not bad. I recall when they announced the tour, lo, I did laugh in their faces, but actually both the album they did, and this tour, were alright (though to pretend either album or tour fairly merit a place alongside the actual Queen albums is tommyrot) Cool

I seem to be arguing myself to a standstill there... Blush
