I think that Italy have already given up on the European Cup.

They slipped to their third straight friendly defeat.
They lost 3-0 to Russia last night despite Super Mario playing the entire 90 mins.

But this current is not as good as those squads back then, Italy won't make it out of the group

Interesting points about the current Italy squad. Compared to previous tournaments, I can't see that many stand out stars among this lot. In years gone by, Italy has always had star players, names that jump out that you know will provide the moments needed to win games. Not here.

Balotelli we know is the man everyone talks about... but usually for the wrong reasons. Smile

The sad thing about this current Italy team is that they just have one world class defender and thats Giorgio Chiellini and they don't even defend that great anymore like past Italian defences used to

Absolutely. In every tournament passed, Italy's strengths have been a rock solid defence, top class keeper and maybe one or two true star forwards to get the winning goal. The combination has always been their great strength. Its how they were able to soak up pressure and wear down teams.

The goals they let in against Russia were pretty shocking. I thought it was an embarrassment to some of the great Italian teams of the past. Still, if Italy are shit now, thats good news for Ireland. Wink

Gary Cahill is out of the squad & Liverpool centre half/right back Martin Kelly has been called up.

Next time we play Belgium in a friendly, we must tell them it's a friendly.... pushing the defender into the goalkeeper before a championship is frownded upon.
Who was the Belguim who didn't even get a yellow card...........

Strange how a club's players with the exception of Gerrard, who have underachieved have been included in the England squad after a terrible season
