Tragic. A good man and a top player. I watched him on Football Focus on Sat morning with Gary Mac, stunned. Thoughts are with his family.

Same. I was so shocked to hear about this the very next day. Completely out of the blue...

most amazing thing was that he was found hanged...??????

i saw him in audience on Strictly the other week, one of the few footballers i could recognise without asking my football crazy b/f who he was.. along with robbie savage of course. sounds like he was an amazing guy, and will clearly be missed by his fellow pros and players he coached alike....

RIP Gary.

RE: RIP Gary Speed - Scottishbloke - 27-11-2011 22:49

I am absolutely shocked with the news, what a truly devasting thing for someone so young to do to himself, suicides are horrible horrible things and it saddens me deeply that anybody could find themselve's in such a desperate state of mind to carry out such a tragic act upon themselves, suicide is never the answer and if ever anybody even contemplates thinking of giving themselves the ultimate punishment then please seek help immediately, a lot of stigma surrounds people who are perhaps not all that well when it comes to the irrational mind and this stigma should be lifted as it's perfectably normal to feel not yourself from time to time and nobody should be embarrassed or ashamed to admit so, I sincerely hope that some good comes from all of this so that more people can be saved from what is a very serious illness which should be treated with compassion and understanding. The wellbeing of the mind is equally as important as the wellbeing of anything physical wrong with you. RIP - Gary Speed - A terrible waste.

That's what so odd, Scottishbloke, there is no indication from any one that he had any emotional problems. By the time you get to the suicide stage EVERYBODY knows there is something wrong, you just can't function properly. this seems to be completely out of the blue for all concerned, including those who know him.

Could not believe it when I saw the news. I was genuinely moved when the Swansea and Villa fans were cheering his name during the minute's silence

Seemed like such a nice fella as well
...
RIP Speedo

Very sad news, top man rip, and your point about everybody knowing when someone is depressed, and thinking of doing something like this, is sadly not true, people hide it many many times im afraid.
