RE: Adult channels to be outlawed - Scottishbloke - 14-03-2013 18:20 Can we just be clear here on a few points. By the nature of this forum and the fact that it's devoted to the channels and the babes that we all like to watch it goes without saying that a lot of people will take this threat seriously. Personally speaking I am not worried in the least. This kind of talk has been circulating around since the turn of the century. Also in the 1980's a certain Mary Whitehouse used to take to the streets and protest with the rest of her mob to ban all pornography and that move failed and this one will also fail too. Why ban something that makes a lot of people happy. I can perfectly understand the current hard stance on drugs for example because fact it does a lot of mental and physical harm to all those who are hooked to the point of near and fatal death. I've yet to hear anything with regards to porn that could be the cause of anything that could be regarded as dangerous other than perhaps lead a certain mob of people to be offended and that's it. The funny thing is how can somebody be offended anyway in the first place if they willingly clicked on the adult website, inserted the DVD into the machine or accessed the 900+ channels. Stumbled across them by accident. My arse you did Nobody put a gun to your head and forced you to watch. Likewise I'm never offended because I choose what I decide to watch. Let and let live as far as I'm concerned. If you have a problem with porn then it's your problem, not mine and not our's. RE: Adult channels to be outlawed - Scottishbloke - 14-03-2013 20:52 Ok good news folks Like I said I was fairly confident that this would never happen, so we'll all be able to breathe again thank fuck now that this threat has been removed http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57573771-93/eu-votes-to-reject-porn-ban-proposals/ RE: Adult channels to be outlawed - eccles - 15-03-2013 00:39 (14-03-2013 21:19 )Fernandez Esperenda Wrote: ...but it still doesn't compare to the 5 pages or so of pointless worrying by other people over a subject like this,... mea culpa, mea culpa I sort of know what you mean, there are other sources of porn and other things in life, jobs, pay, family, pensions, roof leaks, I do like babeshows. Properly done they have a different quality from scripted, directed and edited recorded porn. It worries me that Ofcom can do this. They seem immune to the normal checks and balances, and that is worrying when they control the dominant communications medium, and it seems the views of a handful of individuals can override laws, surveys and public opinion. RE: Adult channels to be outlawed - shylok - 15-03-2013 10:42 Hi D Dave Where you over stepped the mark IMHO was inferring he (FE - a forum member) was a twat just for re-stating his opinion. That's just plain rude. FE is entitled to a view just like the rest of us and maybe he thinks we keep churning the same old stuff over at times? Just my two pennyworth... I wonder if there's any simple way of finding out which members (MEP's) voted which way? I'd love to know just out of interest... Shylok p.s. I'm off to look at some porn now that its all ok again... Which means it surely doesn't matter which MEPs voted for the bill and which didn't. I'd love to know just out of interest... Yes but I would like to know how the voting went (after that clause was removed). It can still be quite revealing... There's still lot of other stuff in the motion... I'd also love to know who (behind closed doors) agree to vote yes if the porn ban clause was removed.. Politics! :-) Shylok RE: Adult channels to be outlawed - Captain Vimes - 16-03-2013 19:46 In the perverse world of Vimes and doing some deep thinking, because deep thinking is what I'm all about, the scenario I imagine is that the 'let's never have any fun' brigade get their way and manage to outlaw the babe channels. They give them a cut off date. The babe channels respond in the last days of broadcast by literally letting it all hang out and FTG. This results in the likes of aaron, Dan Volatile, Quiquems, dirk and the rest having nervous break downs whilst their multiple hard disks spontaneously combust. RE: Adult channels to be outlawed - munch1917 - 16-03-2013 22:52 I had little doubt this would come to nought, but lets not get complacent about these matters. Lest we forget, the good old USofA, land of the free, and home of Las Vegas, has had a ban on online gambling in place for several years (OK, that's a massive over-simplification of the situation, especially in the last year or so things have changed somewhat). That would seem equally as crazy and unlikely as banning online porn, and yet it happened. It has created a crazy situation for example in the booming world of professional poker. Pro poker was born in the US, and the World Series of Poker tournament is still the biggest thing in the business, and yet those participating cannot play online, something which is standard practice, and commonplace elsewhere (again a simplification, things have changed a bit recently). So yes, a ban like this is daft and seems unworkable, but it certainly isn't beyond the realms of possibility, so we need to be vigilant and oppose any attempts to bring these rules in. However ill-conceived those ideas may seem at the time, that dumb and apparently meaningless regulation may just be the tip of an iceberg that leads to something much bigger and more dramatic further down the line. |
