Now the serious question... Just how good is Windows 10?
and how many of my files & games will survive if I upgrade and would it be better to do the backup before installing Other than that I'm wondering if it it would probably might be a better idea to find a laptop with it already installed....

Just reading some of the security concerns with W10. Seriously scary (if it's all true, and not just early days hysteria from sections of the media).
They basically grant themselves the right to access and use your personal data as they wish, mainly for targetting ads, but it also goes beyond that. Apparently you can also share things like your wifi password with others, how long before that gets hacked and you find your net connection being hijacked.
I also read that if you use the encryption feature, the password details get uploaded to MS, but I'm not convinced by that one, it may have been someones paranoia.
Most of these settings can be turned off, but there are concerns that they are enabled by default, and the settings to turn the various 'dodgy' settings off are spread over numerous settings screens in different apps.
I can't help wondering how all that will stack up in a business environment. Some of the big corporations in the US are pretty paranoid when it comes to security, thats one of the reason Blackberry has managed to survive, because these businesses like the BB enclosed email system. I've known people in the past who had great difficulty with the earlier moblie phones and pda's, because they weren't allowed to use any devices in the workplace that had a camera, in case they were taking photos for industrial espionage purposes.
If the operating system on the pc's at every desk has the ability to send information back to MS as and when it sees fit, or to install updates that MS decides you will have whether you like it or not, that may not go down well with such companies and could be a catastrophic move for Microsoft.
Be interesting to see how this all plays out.

lol mate i got a q-pad mk 85 3 years ago. i expect it to last another 7 years at least. but its already grubby to the point im scared to take the keycaps off to clean under them.

so far ive found.
i disabled cortana. but its still running in task manager and randomly connecting to the web.
an app called windowsstore keeps showing up in my network connections on port 433 and 80
you cant use search without cortana being active so removes a good portion of basic usability. such simple tasks as opening the control pannel become a chore as you have to dig down multiple menues.
ive found settings which i have previously disabled were enabled again just 1 day after the inital change.
now i've seen win 10 at work i understand why its free.
microsoft wouldnt be able to sell it 1s users became aware of how intrusive it is with your personal data and search histories.
basically from what ive seen so far the eu complaints commision are gonna have a field day, which for m.s could well be worse than there last encounter with the eu courts.

Yes Windows 10 comes at a price to your privacy. Several tech bloggers are warning everyone to think twice about using it, as the privacy settings are highly invasive by default, and changing them involves over a dozen different screens and an external website.

if you can do a clean install and your looking at 1-2 hours tops for most recent hardware.

I'm thinking a backup would be the best move before hand would be goo move anything else!!
