RE: UFC - DiduHearThat - 29-10-2010 15:19 (29-10-2010 12:42 )groundnpound Wrote: Welcome to the thread DiduHearThat! How you doing lad?Great to have you in here posting on all things UFC! got a good few fighters i love to watch, bisping, hardy, daley, clay guida, jon jones, the diaz brothers and rampage even though hes a shadow of his former self these days. RE: UFC - groundnpound - 30-10-2010 01:11 Nice list mate. Hardy and Bisping are two of my favs also!Gotta love the brits!Did u see them at ufc 120 in London? Just read that Roy Nelson has been removed from the UFC 125 card now and that Jose Aldo and Josh Grispi will make their UFC debuts against each other in the co main event on the card...So it seems like they're dropping out the Heavyweight bout to replace it with the Featherweight bout... Jose Aldo is a real top notcher. Can't wait to see him in the UFC! RE: UFC - mitchell - 30-10-2010 13:19 God knows whats gonna happen with the heavyweight division now with all the injurys i thought Frank Mir would be put in with 'Big Country', then again it not surprising given his performance against Cro Cop!!! I like Chris Leben he's a decent fighter but if he can't make the card due to his recent arrest??? Then i hope Nate Diaz v Dong Hyun Kim gets promoted from the prelims as i think this will be a great fight. RE: UFC - cainan - 30-10-2010 16:33 Frank Mir vs. Big Country was in the works but alas, it aint to be. JDS is my fave fighter in the world in the mens division and despite his training in wrestling, i still think his strength is with his fantastic boxing. Undefeated as a kickboxer, JDS (18-0) and all wins by KO....Velasquez had his legs buckled by Chieck Kongo in their fight so.......this is going to be so CLOSE ....well, hopefully. Anybody seen Hector Lombard in Bellator? That dude is fucking awesome but in the UFC...i dont think he would be able to KO somebody in just 6 seconds. He had a very tough fight against Schlemenko. I was looking back today and three great fighters were all beaten in huge/biggish upsets. Fedor, who imo, is drifting silently towards retirement and to be honest, he really doesnt matter anymore. Megumi Fujii who is like the greatest female MMA fighter ever, Zoila Frausto has been incredibly lucky by getting two straight SD's. Yuka Tsuji is also one the greatest female MMA fighters who was beaten by somebody she's already defeated. Fujii (23-1) vs. Tsuji (22-2) has to happen now. I also woudnt mind Hisae Watanabe returning to MMA. If nobody has seen Fujii, Tsuji or Watanabe fight then check there fights. Especially Watanabe vs. Shinashi 2, the KO is better than some of the mens division KO's. Dong Hyun Kim should be fighting on the Main Card by now and if he beats Diaz, then he should begin on the Main Cards. RE: UFC - groundnpound - 31-10-2010 00:11 I'd imagine the Diaz v Kim fight will be moved up Mitchell.Should be a quality fight! Like i said before, think Cain will have it his own way for a while whilst Carwin and Lesnar(my idea of fighters who could possibly beat Cain) get there shit sorted and the UFC in general get things sorted out in the division... if he defeats JDS.Which i expect him to. Although i do remember Congo giving Velasquez some trouble early in the fight Cainan like u say..Just can't see him not defending his belt at least once! Watched a replay of TUF 7 earlier Griffin/Rampage was great what a season! RE: UFC - groundnpound - 02-11-2010 12:36 Alrite Lads...Hows things?Just found out that Shane Carwin will go in for surgery today on his back problem so who knows when he'll fight again?Hopefully not too long. Here's the story. Former interim UFC heavyweight champion Shane Carwin will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair issues he’s had with his back for the past several years. Carwin had previously announced that he was going to be forced to withdraw from his Jan. 1 fight against Roy Nelson due to the back injury, and after some careful thought he opted for surgery to repair the problem instead of just hoping it would heal over time. “One more day of this relentless pain to go,” Carwin wrote on his official Twitter page on Monday. “I seriously never imagined that one would look forward to surgery.” The procedure will be performed by Dr. Chad Prusmack from the Sky Ridge Medical Center, who also works as a neurosurgeon and consultant for the NFL’s Denver Broncos. Carwin’s teammate, Nate Marquardt, says he spoke to the fighter about the surgery and is optimistic about the outcome and his quick recovery. “When I first heard the news I was a little bit upset and just worried for Shane,” Marquardt said in an interview with MMAWeekly Radio. “The main thing is just worry for him as a friend. Talking to him and I personally know the doctor that he’s working with, he’s one of the best if not the best, and I feel very confident that he’ll be able to make a quick recovery and get back to fighting fairly quickly.” The timeline for Carwin’s return to the cage is unknown. Other fighters who have undergone back surgery such as Tito Ortiz and Nate Quarry have both reached out to Carwin offering any kind of help after having similar operations. Writing on his website prior to making the final decision about surgery, Carwin promised that he would return to the fight world a better and stronger fighter, injury free for the first time in years. “This is a hard decision, but the right one, and I hope Team Carwin can stand by me through this period of my career,” Carwin wrote. “No one wants to get me back to winning more than me. “I just need to be healthy to do it.” With Carwin’s withdrawal from the fight, Nelson thus far has been removed from the UFC 125 fight card. RE: UFC - Gaz "AV1" Aston - 02-11-2010 13:32 Is the Heavyweight division so diminished at the moment, that they cant get ANYONE to fight Nelson at UFC125??? Surely they could get someone in to fight even if they arent at the top of the rankings??? RE: UFC - mitchell - 02-11-2010 17:49 I don't know why they don't give someone like Travis Browne a shot at 'Big Country' he's only had 2 UFC fights but is 10-0 8KO's & it's not like Roy Nelson's a seasoned campaigner in the UFC & their styles will make a great fight. Or just put Frank Mir in there as this makes more sense, there must be something goin on between Mir & the UFC if he's not gonna step in with Nelson, i know the Cro Cop fight was shit but Mir isn't far off a title challenge??? RE: UFC - groundnpound - 02-11-2010 17:54 Its not in bad shape mate...I don't really know what the problem is to be honest?Surely it would have been easy to find a replacement to take on Nelson after Carwin pulling out...I actually think that their trying to change the look of the show with the introduction of the WEC in their minds. They've already got Jose Aldo and Josh Grispi from WEC making their debuts against each other in a title fight on the show so i think they might use it as a launch pad for some of the top WEC lads...But who knows? The Heavyweight division has a lot of capable guys and i think we might see a Heavyweight themed show sometime in the near future to make up for losing the Carwin v Nelson fight but again i could be wrong??? Top 10 Heavyweight Rankings 1.Cain Velasquez 2.Junior Dos Santos 3.Brock Lesnar 4.Shane Carwin 5.Randy Couture 6.Frank Mir 7.Roy Nelson 8.Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira. 9.Stefan Struve 10.Ben Rothwell Other guys in and around are: *Brendan Schaub 8-1-0 *Travis Browne 10-0-1 *Matt Mitrione 3-0-0 *Sean McCorkle 10-0-0 *Mike Russow 13-1-0 The divison in my eyes should be thriving. RE: UFC - Gaz "AV1" Aston - 02-11-2010 18:23 any idea what Heavyweights are coming from the WEC merger? If any? (i never really followed WEC so have no idea about the talent that UFC have accquired ) |
