So if me and my mate moved to Dublin, unilaterally declared that we wanted Dublin to be part of the UK again, I can call on you to tell all the other Dubliners who don't like that fact to just fuck off and go and live outside it?

Cheers mate!

"they can take our trousers, but they can never take our freedom"

(sorry millionth Braveheart joke).

I also don't understand the concerns over the currency question post independence. Scottish notes are worthless in England now. Nothing will change.

Seriously though, I suspect devolution max will be the best outcome all things considered. Although likely that in 10 - 15 years there will be another vote perhaps with a different result. Remember that devolution was done to neuter SNP and they thrived. Allowed them to govern reflecting the political landscape of Scotland.

The one poll that is being quoted with 54% No, had a sample size of 1,800 people. Certainly some margin of error available in that.

Whatever the result is it's not the end , its only the beginning. We will have months of wrangling between the condems and SNP then we have the general election next may a new British government will come in and the merry go round will start again.

Go on the scots take this chance. In the words of achilles IN Troy "Do you know whats waiting? IMMORTALITY, TAKE IT ITS YOURS". Comical the way the pubs are open all night they'd probably do the same thing here in ireland "sure whatever the result we'll get fuckin hammered in anyway".

Interesting to note that if Scotland does indeed vote for Independence that the Union Jack will remain unaltered, reason being is because the flag represents the union of the crown and not the union of nations and seeing as the Queen will then become the Queen of Scots you lot will be stuck with the Saltire background Big Grin

Ready for your return SB Big Grin

Seriously though, good luck to all and hopefully everyone eligible to vote has done so for the right reasons.

Being English, it's out of my hands, but taking into account all the details I think I would have voted no if I were Scotch and given the chance.
I don't believe the yes vote has enough factual evidence behind it to confirm that Scotland will be better off (strictly my opinion) .

"Better the devil you know" type of approach for me I think.

Anyway, I respect everyone's opinion so let's see what happens and hopefully we shall have peace Smile

RE: Scottish Independence - Rammyrascal - 19-09-2014 00:33

about 6hrs now till the result is announced and I still think the result will be the no vote winning with the percentages being like they were in the you gov poll tonight with no 54%-46% voting yes

if I was voting, I would have voted for a similar reason bandwagon has just said, the yes campaign has not given enough factual evidence that an independent Scotland would be better off than a Scotland that is still part of the uk

RE: Scottish Independence - Scottishbloke - 19-09-2014 00:39

If the result is Yes then I certainly hope that we can continue to extend the hand of friendship to our neighbours England and the rest of the UK.

A lot of people might think that the Yes campaign is solely about being Anti-English, I can assure you it isn't. All I've ever wanted is for our country to prosper, we've always put ourselves down as a nation, we've never had the courage to realise our potential.

The Yes vote has gained momentum the last few weeks, it's almost like the whole nation has woken up again and started to believe that Yes we can do it and Yes we will do it.

The percentage turnout figures I am hearing are hugely impressive so far.
Well into the 80s in various areas.
