Confidence must be rock bottom. We'll need to walk away from this series and regroup.

After a few months r & r, most of these guys will be back playing for England in the summer.

I can see the only casualties being Carberry & the tour manager. Cooke's captancy may be an issue

Your not gonna get that pleasure as Flower has committed himself to the cause. The captaincy is def an issue but not one to address right now. There will be more casualties and the birth of a new England team. Rankin was well, rank(sorry) Borthwick not for me he aint a better spinner than Panesar and Ballance its too early to judge.

Not as high as 20 I'm afraid. It's 15.75

Borthwick may not be as good as Monty yet but is a young for a spinner and still learning his trade. He adds batting as well, which will give him the advantage over Monty in the long term. Whilst I know others will disagree I don't feel you can be one dimensional in test cricket unless you are exceptional.
I have been a bit underwhelmed by Cook's captaincy as well but as you say may him can be given a bit more time. Agree Rankin has not impressed and if he is the current best of the 3 tall quick hit the deck bowlers then it just goes to show why Plan A failed so badly. Balance looks to have potential and should get his chance to impress (or otherwise) in the summer.

England picked the wrong squad,so in turn they kept picking the wrong team.At the time I thought it was a mistake not to send for an experienced replacement for Trott.I know he's had a number off chances, but I would have given Bopara a go.Ashes Tests aren't the time to give out debuts,Stokes has surprised me with the bat,but despite picking up wickets he's going for way too many runs.
Borthwick will go to Sri Lanka with the England Lions, that is where he should be learning his trade, not in the middle of a Test Match.Cook has less faith in him than Monty.
Onions must surely make the starting line-up next Summer.
