Excellent performance by Jo Konta to beat Spain's 9th seed Muguruza 7-6 6-7 6-2

This will be her first time in 3rd round of a major.

Jo's performance was even better when you realise the Muguruza went all the way to the Wimbledon final this year.

Longest womens singles match in US Open history so I hear.

RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - mikedafc - 03-09-2015 21:19

Yeah since they brought in tie breaks in all sets in 1970. Sam Stosur v Petrova was previous longest womens match at 3hr15mins

RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - Mellow - 03-09-2015 23:31

Andy Murray came from 2 sets down to beat Frenchman Mannarino 5-7 4-6 6-1 6-3 6-1

Rafa Nadal was beaten in 5 sets after being 2 sets up.

I think Nadal is in permanent decline myself. Than again though that about Federer a few years ago and though maybe not quite the force he was 5 years ago, is still hanging in strong and very much remaining one the guys to beat.

It is sad to see Nadal not being the player we all know he is I wouldn't say the decline is permanent maybe a lot of the problems with injuries that he has had has probably also left a psychological mark on his performance and he must have a lot of nagging doubts in his must as to how the knee is standing up to the pressures of tennis once more. If he could get over the psychological marks he could have I think he could still prove to be a top player for few more years.

Federer on the other just amazes me, the press has written him off time after time and yet he always lets his tennis do the talking for him he must be one of the oldest guys on the ATP tour now....If he wins this Us Open it would be amazing...

The brilliant Jo Konta has beaten the 18th seed Petkovic 7-6 6-3

Her 4th round opponent will be 5th seed Petra Kvitova.

Will be tough for but the way she has played she shown no fear of her opponent regardless of her ranking....
