Good to see Luca Brecel look a bit more like his old self this evening. He recovered from 0-2 down to beat Stuart Carrington 4-2 and played some deliciously naughty snooker at times in doing so. I sense he is starting to find his form again. Great to see.

Carrington's one of those drab players who never does well enough to generate a proper level of irritation.

I notice Bingham got whitewashed along the way too - good.

Ranking points for Luca but standing at 58th place on the 1 year ranking list, he's got to go some in the Welsh Open and the World Open to get enough ranking points to get into the top 32 on the 1YRL to go to Hong Kong for the World Grand Prix.

Ronnie O'Sullivan withdrew around 4 hours before he was due to play. Ronnie stands in 20th place on the 1YRL, so should be OK for the World Grand Prix. Hopefully the next tournaments being in China and Hong Kong means that he'll enter them so he can get the ranking point to play in the Players Championship.

Wu Yize, the surprise no.11 on the 1YRL due to being runner up in both the English and Scottish Open, should be OK for the first 2 tournaments in the Players series. He beat Scott Donaldson 4-3. If he makes a treble of runner up spots in Home Nations tournaments he could be in line for the Tour Championship as well.

Wins also for Kyren Wilson, Noppon Saengkham and David Gilbert.

Carter currently leading Rory Thor 2-0 Sad

Sadly the Craptain completed the whitewash over Rory Thor.

Jack Lisowski made 3 centuries in 4 frames to whitewash Joshua Cooper 4-0.

Hossein Vafaei suffering from a neck injury still mamaged to beat Fan Zhengyi 4-2.

Chris Wakelin came back from 3-1 down to beat Michael Holt 4-3.

Big Bob got whitewashed by Higgins this morning. He had chances in the last frame, but it was too little, too late.

Yes, Maguire, the 2013 Welsh Open Champion, beat home favourite Mark Williams 4-2.

Welshman Jackson Page beat Ishpreet Singh-Chadha, and more success for Wales as Jamie Jones beat Robbie Williams.

Yuan Sijun continued his excellent form with a 4-3 victory over Mark Allen. Tom Ford continued his good form with a 4-3 victory over Neil Robertson, making a 131 break in the decider. Pang Junxu won the all Chinese match against Zhang Anda 4-2.

Wu Yize won't be getting into a treble of home nations finals this season as he lost to Sanderson Lam.

RE: Home Nations £1m tournament - Doddle - 12-02-2025 22:05

Props to Maguire's post-match interview: "och, I loved covid... I hate people" Tongue

Matthew Stevens also an improbable Welsh advancer.

RE: Home Nations £1m tournament - Snooks - 12-02-2025 22:44

Kyren Wilson is out after losing 4-3 to an impressively mature performance from Joe O'Connor.
Luca Brecel is in action now and was on course for a 147 before leaving himself too much to do on the penultimate black and breaking down on 105.

Wilson was mebbe a touch lucky to edge past Marco Fu in a decider. Selby mentioned on Monday about having a 10am start, he was at the other end of the lists last night, I think. But maybe one of the remaining favourites.
