All of you people thinking his bravado will 'lose' voters are naive to say the least. Go back to the Access Hollywood tape where EVERYONE predicted his campaign was dead and buried.

I just love how so many on you have so little understanding of American culture and the libertarian streak that runs straight through it. This is a country that doesn't have a cult of healthcare and social welfare like we do, whether you like it or not. This is a country that has a high tolerance of firearms and all the issues that comes with it, whether you like it or not. Americans love to live on the edge and so covid is going to be a non issue when it comes tk the electorate.

The "Republican voter base" is not a definition of America. At most, all the people who identify as Republicans amount to no more than 25% of the voting-age population. Some proportion of those must be fiscal conservative / social liberal types who only tolerated Trump for as long as they could get their tax cuts and judges. They've got those now.

The proud libertarian, gun-owning, government-hating, communist-fearing, red-blooded, Trump-loving base that you're talking about probably amounts to 15% to 20% of the country at most. Which is definitely enough to be competitive in an election and it's more than enough -- within the Republican party itself -- to make Lindsay Graham wet his pants.

But I personally don't think it is enough to win an election -- and I know that it is not a true reflection of "American culture".

I know that you don't like political correctness, Slabhead, so I will unapologetically call them what they really are: they are the "basket of deplorables" that Hilary Clinton warned us about.

^ Yep the right to be rascist, kill unarmed black people without fear of punishment, arm lunatics who carry out mass school shootings, deprive women of the right to choose an abortion, deprive people of low cost health insurance & coverage for pre-existing conditions and elect a President who lies, rapes, steals from charities and doesn’t pay taxes are great things to fight for. annoyed

The dementia is kicking in now!
Trump's now tearing big chunks of flesh out of Biden and he's barely even trying. Biden's talking a lot and it's hilarious, he keeps stumbling over his lines.
Biden calling Trump racist without any justification, how nice. That worked out well for Clinton when dismissing Trump voters as deplorables.
Trump won as expected. Biden was mauled and mutilated after 20 minutes. Now I'm going to have a nice wank over Sophie Hart!

First batch of post-debate polls now published.

Biden gets a 2 point bump from an already commanding lead. Now nine points ahead. (Clinton went into the 2016 election with just a 4 point lead).

Joe Biden now has an 83% chance of winning according to the 538 model and that makes some allowance for the race tightening over time. If the election were held tomorrow, Biden would win in an epic landslide.

It's actually a little worrying -- there's no guessing what Trump will do when he starts thrashing around like a wounded animal.

25% is still a significant figure given that there are plenty of Americans who don't have a loyal or lifelong adherence to a party, or at least since 2016 where traditional left/right dynamics have been thrown up in the air. And if you want tk talk about toleration, where are the passionate Biden supporters? They are nowhere to be seen. Even Hillary had some passionate fans, though the majority of her voters found her deeply unpleasant and 'tolerated' her.

Again, the images of cities burning, initiated by far leftists who have the support of key Democrat politicians will linger in the minds of many Americans. If large swathes of blue collar Democrats could turn to billionaire Trump after being left behind by Democrats, middle class Democrats can do the same.

A coalition of established Trump voters and fresh voters fed up with the current state of the Democratic Party is big enough to win. And it's obvious that you don't need a majority of the popular vote to win the White House.

And how did that 'deplorables' comment work out of Clinton's Wall Street infested campaign? Dismissing a large part of your fellow citizens that you might want to appeal to at some point is a recipe of failure. All the pathetic, unfounded slurs of 'racist/sexist/Islamophobic' made by ivory tower politicians aren't easily forgiven. And then people wonder why results like Trump and Brexit happen. So please, carry on playing that old game because you'll be digger a grave deeper than the one the left is currently sitting in haha.

I'll concede that Biden is ahead in the polls right now, although I maintain that polls have almost become meaningless in the past 4 years. Which will make the tears of deranged Trump haters all the more sweeter to drink when he 'shockingly' wins again Cool

Not falling for Trump's "the polls are all fake" routine?

The cracks are showing...

RE: US Election & Presidency - Slabhead - 07-10-2020 02:45

I just don't pay much attention to polling. How many are those participating in polls actually going to go out and vote for Biden? There is total in difference towards him, no one likes him.
