BBC2 have a couple of lengthy compilations tonight, one on "originals" which sounds likely to promise more than it delivers, especially at over 2 hours, followed by the Radio 2 Piano Lounge for those who love cover versions (joined-up licence fee work there).

Simon & Garfunkel fans should note BBC2 giving it some repeat love tonight.

The Stones get their turn on BBC4, whilst it's Queen time again on SA instead.

SA had a pretty decent new one on Pauline Black which I managed to catch last week.

BBC2 did another marathon 2.5 hour compilation of "hidden treasures" although what's bloody hidden about Kate Bush, Barbara Streisand and Cher, I do not know. To be fair, there were some obscurities like some Van Morrison track, but my main complaints were that many selections had already turned up on BBC4 in repeats in the last 12 months (eg Johnny Mathis, Enya, etc), and others were almost wilfully non-obscure (you'd be forgiven for thinking Deacon Blue have spent an entire career just playing Dignity because that's almost the only choice of theirs which ever comes up). And even in terms of recent repeats, where were Tony Bennett and Bobbie Gentry? Where are genuinely hidden acts like PJ "Later staple" Harvey, the Jesus and Mary Chain, or even Hot Chocolate? Feckless bloody idea of entertainment.

BBC2 had another lengthy round-up last night on the theme of "1988" Rolleyes They managed to stick to just 2 videos out of 30, and they included Sabrina from TOTP, so that's grand.

There was a doc on Milli Vanilli after, so feel free to imagine your own punchline about miming.

Elaine Paige love on BBC4 tonight. SA have been a bit repeat-heavy of late.
