For England to lose to Ireland was a shock yes but Holland beating England in the ICC World 20/twenty was probably bigger. England's bowling especially James Anderson has been poor so far in this world cup. their batting is only being acclaimed because they have faced poor bowliing sides really RE: ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - chrislatimer - 05-03-2011 17:15 india a poor bowling side ? RE: ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - lancealot790 - 05-03-2011 17:21 Although i expected england to beat Holland in the 20/20, it really was,nt that big a shock. Because of the short nature of the game, one man really can make a difference. When a player gets a decent score in 50 over cricket, there is still time to compensate for it. But in 20/20 the game can be take away from you in 2 or 3 overs and i have watched many games where that has happened. But for the ireland game o,brien and the tail were allowed to smash the england bowlers for the best part of 20 overs. People cannot put the result down to a dropped catch, it was just another very very poor performance from the england team. I dread to think what will happen when South Africa get hold of us tomorrow. RE: ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - lancealot790 - 05-03-2011 17:28 I would never say India have a poor bowling attack but they are certainly the weakest of the major cricket nations. Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer khan are their only really class bowlers, the rest tend to be part timers. India should walk this world cup, with the batting line up they have, but i suspect their bowling will cost them. RE: ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - chrislatimer - 05-03-2011 17:32 best 1 day side in the world i think. they are gonna destroy us if they bat to their full potential RE: ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - lancealot790 - 05-03-2011 17:45 Depending on the what the pitch is like, i fully expect SA to get between 270 - 320 at least. Then the england batsmen will face their first real test, Steyn, Morkel, Kallis, and Tahir, will be far more of a challenge than any other attack in their group. RE: ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - Charlemagne - 06-03-2011 13:39 After waking up and finding that England had only made about 180 runs, and South Africa were 63 without loss. But England fought back on a bad wicket and have won by 6 runs.... RE: ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - lancealot790 - 06-03-2011 14:56 England and South Africa are two very much evenly matched sides and a bowler friendly pitch was always going to make it a low scoring game. I think the result says far more about SA than England, their reputation as the chokers of world cricket is well deserved. This was a much better display by the england bowlers but the team were let off the hook by some poor SA batting. England cannot seem to get all aspects of the game right, either the batting or the bowling and fielding lets them down. The pitch certainly helped both bowling attacks but it was perfect for the under pressure england bowlers, another featherbed flat track would have almost certainly seen them concede another big score. This will do anderson and co,s confidence the world of good. This result sees england back on track and i give them full credit for the performance, but it will NEVER EVER make up for the humiliation against ireland. RE: ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - William H Bonney - 06-03-2011 14:57 An excellent performance by England in the field. Top work by the bowlers and Broad would have been man of the match on a different day, but I agreed with Bopara being given that award. Honourable mentions go to Anderson who produced a devastating burst of reverse swing and to Swann who bowled with guile and craft from the start. On a stat note, England's 6 run win is their closest margin of victory in the World Cup when they have batted first, beating a 9 run victory over India in 1992. RE: ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - rocksaviour - 06-03-2011 15:02 A much better performance with the ball and in the field today by England and good to get a win against South Africa. We've been a more than entertaining team to watch so far and hope that will put us in good stead throughout the rest of the competition. Good to see Bopara come in and get runs and a postive that we mixed up the bowling nicely with the overs, something we never seem to do that much but given the pitch it was perfect for us to get through some overs of spin. |
