The 606 tribute to him on Radio 5 last night was moving. You could tell by the people who called in, that he earned everybody's respect and was an all - round genuine top bloke with a smile on his face.

Just how much of a setback the Welsh team has suffered with his passing, remains to be seen, but I certainly do think they would have mounted a serious challenge to qualify for Brazil 2014 under him, he seemed to have turned the team around and I do think they have some really exciting times ahead with their team.

Shocked and saddened by this terrible news. He was a great professional. R.I.P Gary Speed.

With all due respect I find this hard to believe in Gary Speed's case. The whole thing is baffling as there was never the slightest hint to anyone that he had a problem. Sadly it seems like he made a tragic snap decision.

I admit that I'm no football expert and maybe I'm out of my depth here even talking about this, but this apparent suicide makes no sense as this person had a great professional career and a happy family, as far as anyone knows. Why aren't the police at least a bit suspicious? They seem to have ruled out foul play very quickly.

RE: RIP Gary Speed - 7 stars of the orient - 28-11-2011 12:44

The police didn't have to say anything at this stage as they are not obliged to, but they said "there are no suspicious circumstances" so I feel we must accept that. It is rumoured that The Sun were about to expose him as bisexual and that pushed him over the edge, but the Sun has already denied it. Whatever the reasons I feel Gary made the wrong decision. Whatever the problem it wasn't worth ending it all. Maybe he did have a very serious problem, but whatever it was it wasn't worth that. Sad

Lots of rumours doing the rounds. Latest this Sun report that they were going to do a story on him. As someone with some training on the subject, i would just like to say that when a person achievs suicide their mind is overwhelmed and rational thinking ceases. Very tragic and no doubt we will hear more in time. All our thoughts are with his wife and sons. I do hope the press respect the family's privacy.

Yes that is what we need to bear in mind above all, as SOCATOA says with wise words, in such a case all rational thinking is gone, so it's a mistake to try and analyse his thoughts or situation. RIP.

RE: RIP Gary Speed - Cpe - 28-11-2011 13:22

Tragically demonstrates that despite seemingly having "everything", someone deep down can be so troubled and ultimately vulnerable. I very much hope that all these rumours are completely unfounded and that his family can be given some much needed privacy & respect. RIP Gary.

Indeed I hope the press leave the family to grieve in peace.

I did wonder if a newspaper was behind it, by removing an injunction or by having the latest "scoop" ! They feed the general public the filth on peoples lives without a seconds thought for what might be the consequence. Either way I'm sure journo's are working overtime to find out.

Just leave the family be, what ever the reasons they deserve to grieve in peace. It is a tragic loss Sad Sad
