Quote:Maybe we should pass the show over to Simon Cowell to produce on ITV Wink

I agree getting Simon Cowell involved might just might give us a chance however it wouldn't go to ITV as it's far too expensive and is broadcast on the BBC based on the Licence Fee as if we won we would have to host the next year.

It was a convincing victory for Sweden in the end. Of the 39 countries who could vote for them as many as 30 had Sweden in the top 3 (and 35 of the 39 had them in the top 4). The lowest mark they got was a 7th place given by Greece.

the thing is eurovision is about the song not just the image of course needs to be british songwriter and i bet the majority of the cowell hit bands hardley use english song writers and are being writtern by mostly swedes or yanks

Really need songwriters like Adele, Sam Smith, Jessie J, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding to do it but they have great careers and dont need it cos they are already doing it and getting critical acclaim and awards all over the world

Only watched bits last night as I concentrated on Dannivision on BS but it seems to me the UK are hampered by bad songs and bad singers. I do wonder if singing the Eurovision entry should be part of the prize for winning The Voice or Cowells show. At least then the entrant might have some name recognition. I preferred the Belgian entry and the Italians but them I'm tone deaf Big Grin

Adele has previously ruled it out. I doubt any of our established, chart appearing musicians will ever do it these days - there's too much of a stigma involved with the perception among some in the music industry that Eurovision doesn't help careers and doesn't gain the artist any further acclaim - so why should they want to do it? Other established, well known UK singers have done it before and found it a damaging experience.

I like Eurovision - because I try not to take the madness too seriously. Politics has ruined previous shows in the late 90s and early part of the 2000s, especially since more countries came in to existence, but I think last night's show provided hope that politics might not rule as much in future events. I was happy that last night several Eastern European nations broke ranks and didn't give the 12 points to the usual suspects for a change.

Please don't let Slimy Cowell anywhere near Eurovision.Personally I wouldn't cross the road to go and see the likes of Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran or any of Cowells pop clones, there are plenty of real song writers and quality singers out there. But then winning Eurovision is not about putting forward a good song its about putting forward a Eurovision song. Nothing succeeds like a good gimmick, the songs most instantly coming to mind of recent years are Israeli transexual,Russian grannies & Austrian bearded lady, so if we could find a one legged .lesbian dwarf with a hairy chest singing a song about peace, brotherhood and humanity with a catchy chorus and repetive hook line it would be a shoe in!
If Sweden winning with such a lack lustre song proved anything it was that this year was all about special effects.Lets get rid of the ridiculous stage effects and gimmicks, even the backing dancers and just have the singer come on and sing the song, probably be cheaper to stage as well.
