I'm very surprised in terms of Townsend. I always thought he was one of Woy's pets and he did quite well when he came on against Australia. Sturridge makes Anderton look like an iron man. Amazed that Barkley got the nod over Drinkwater.

Plus you've just said yourself that with only 3 centre backs, well for me that is another risk. If one of them gets crocked, we're going to be struggling to patch a back line together, and its not the time to take risks when there's doubts already over a few of the midfielders fitness.

The problem with being an international manager is that you either get accused of being conservative or of taking too many risks.

The squad for me, particularly the defenders, is risky. There's very little tournament experience in there. I am pleased that he's took five strikers instead of the usual four that his predecessors have taken, although you could question whether Rooney's a striker these days. I know he's a forward, not disputing that, but I think his best position now is behind the front striker. But I would have preferred more experience and more defensive options in a tournament. Drinkwater in the squad would have provided extra defensive cover.

I've nothing against going for it, but there's a fine line between going for it and being overly risky.

There is a fine line, of course there is, but Hodgson gets paid the big bucks to make those decisions. England have played with fear and negativity in tournaments for so long, it's a refreshing change to see such a positive, youthful looking squad with bags of potential. As for tournament experience; a) how do you get that if you don't go to tournaments? And b) all recent tournament experience has been negative as we've done so badly. We probably won't win it but at least this squad shouldn't die wondering like its recent predecessors

I take your point about recent experience being negative. Perhaps there isn't enough positive experience to have considered anyway, fair enough. Maybe it will be refreshing and exciting and all the things that we've longed for from an England team.

We'll see soon enough. Wink

Woy played 4-2-4 in the last world cup. It was ridiculous. If played 4-3-3 we could still have been attack minded yet still be defensively strong. Woy seems to go from one extreme to the other.

Very disappointed for Drinkwater.
One of the most consistent performers of the season left out. Huh. Oh well Good luck Woy Wink

We'll be lucky to make knockout stages with the defensive options we have.

If Drinkwater was playing for United,City,Arsenal,Liverpool or Chelsea he would be going .

Could say the same about Mark Noble. He has scored over 200 more ranking points than Drinkwater this season.
