RE: World War 3? - SecretAgent - 13-04-2018 11:55 Ok so IF it is proven that Assad did gas his own people (like he has done before) what would it take for some of you guys to agree to take military action against him becuse I can't tell what would. Do you want him to gas another country or lock people up in camps where he gases them (oh wait that's been done before) If he gassed Israel with his Iranian allies would that be enough? What about gassing us or do you just want to roll over and let him and/or the Russians do what the hell they want? I really am interested. There have been minimal repercussions. But my point is that there are no repercussions because other countries know a) Israel won't apologise anyway, b) USA will back them up. Well yes, because apologising right after you've bombed the shit out of someone is the norm, every other country does it In case you didn't read the op properly, I wasn't necessarily supporting the Israeli strike (at least not without knowing what exactly they hit), I was making the comparison with Trump's tactic of trolling Putin on twitter first. Fortunately Mathis, or someone, seems to have talked him down from the ledge. Even more fortunately, I doubt anyone takes the shit he tweets seriously anymore, anyway. Just for the record, if Assad has chemical weapons and the exact location is known, I would support a strike. Although, thanks to Trump, it's difficult to see how to achieve it without escalating the conflict. Maybe we should just sub-contract the job to the Israelis RE: World War 3? - babefan2012 - 13-04-2018 12:58 (13-04-2018 11:55 )SecretAgent Wrote: Ok so IF it is proven that Assad did gas his own people (like he has done before) what would it take for some of you guys to agree to take military action against him becuse I can't tell what would. Well if it’s proven by an independent source, reputable then I can see myself agreeing to strikes. But, and it’s a big one, what has he got to gain from it? He’s winning. Why gas his own people when he’s on the cusp of victory and recementing his position!! Make no mistake I think he’s a war criminal because he’s used them before but now makes little sense. He’s a despot dictator and he’s solely focused on his own borders. Highly doubt he’ll threaten anyone else outside unless he has a death wish. Russia want him in place because he’s an ally in the region. Russia wouldn’t want him threatening any other country because it’ll cause a shit storm for them both. RE: World War 3? - southsidestu - 13-04-2018 19:59 Maybe he is gassing them now because he feels like he can get away with it, I mean he did it a few years ago and he is still in power. As long as he has Russia on his side he can get away with pretty much anything domestically? As long as he has Russia on his side he can get away with pretty much anything domestically? Maybe. But that caused a massive outpour of condemnation. Pretty sure he'd be ridiculously stupid to do it now, on the cusp of victory. But whats the alternative? Russian have stood by him since it started, a major reason its dragged on was Russia's support of him. It would be incredibly difficult to diplomatically get Russia to remove their support and accept a potential regime change. He's an ally to them. They stood behind him this long they aren't going to ditch him now. I mean he's a war criminal no doubt, but how with Russia backing him is there ever going to be a Syria without Assad in control? RE: World War 3? - HannahsPet - 14-04-2018 05:48 Putin only cares about 2 things the naval base and to stop 2 major gas pipelines for being constructed from iran and UAE into europe which will mean Western Europe can get there gas from the middle east and not from russia thereby sucking all of his power RE: World War 3? - Doddle - 14-04-2018 07:06 (14-04-2018 05:48 )HannahsPet Wrote: Putin only cares about 2 things the naval base and to stop 2 major gas pipelines for being constructed from iran and UAE into europe which will mean Western Europe can get there gas from the middle east and not from russia thereby sucking all of his powerNow now, don't start bringing sound business reasons into this, you can't whip up media hysteria just on things like that. What about the children??!? RE: World War 3? - lovebabes56 - 14-04-2018 07:40 Here we go watch this blow the middle east wide open May & Trump are idiots being led down a path of false information and acting without UN resolution like Blair & Bush all over again RE: World War 3? - HannahsPet - 14-04-2018 09:56 how can you get a UN resolution when Russia Veto's everything they even vetod an independent enquiry into it the other day. The UN is useless until they kick Russia out which they wont do RE: World War 3? - babefan2012 - 14-04-2018 10:42 Well unlike like dumb and dumber from 15 years ago this is way more volatile. Russia has been edging to war ever since Ukraine wanted to join the EU. Their spoiling for a fight. The absolute last thing we need is air strikes killing Russian personnel potentially. Without hard evidence and an independent authority looking into it, there can be no air strikes. There’s too many questions unanswered. Yes he used chemical weapons a few years back but now makes little sense. He’s winning or has won. Yes he’s a war criminal but with Russia backing him a regime change is out of the question. |
