Both Mayweather Jr & Senior mentioned they they expected McGregor to come out guns blazing & load up on his punches (which will fatigue a fighter quicker) & I think Mayweather wanted to get a gauge what sort of punch power McGregor had.And any experienced boxer will tell you when a fighter is running out of gas punch power dimishes so Mayweather would be able to tell mid-fight when McGregor is running out of gas by the power of his punches.
A classic example is the Muhammed Ali Vs George Foreman fight,Foreman came out early loading up & swang for the fences of which Ali soaked it up defensively. When Ali knew Foreman ran out of gas when his punching got weaker he took him out & the rest was history.

McGregor hit the nail on the head when he said Mayweather was more composed with his punches which meant he wasn't wasting his punches. He wasn't throwing punches just to catch fresh air (which will still tire you out).Boxers like Mayweather go through quiet periods in fights to regain stamina & don't set a frantic pace that is hard to maintain for 12 rounds.

Yeah he said that, but only after the fight. Mayweather repeats numerous times (clearly it bothers him) how he had to take some shots for his gameplan to work. Ie, he was in full control at all times, and getting twatted about (by a well known hard puncher) was always in his 'gameplan' Rolleyes

The guy won, he doesn't need to try and discredit McGregor's fine work in the first few rounds.
