James Marsters would be interesting and might give us an edgy, more dangerous DoctorCool

some bookmakers have apparently stopped taking bets on who the new doctor will be after a rush of people put money on peter capaldi who is now the clear favourite to replace matt smith

Capaldi, Rigby, Kinnear, Marsters, female doctor? I don't want any of those. Sad

Is anyone really bothered by the hype the BBC are generating over this. It will not make the slightest difference who they choose as Moffat will still be calling the shots bladewave

Absolutely agree with this. I lost a lot of interest with the show during the last series. Moffat's ideas have become really stale for me. I'm just not overly impressed with the apparent choices of actors mentioned to take over so far either.

I think people may be getting too excited over what may turn out to be another disaster. I'll see what happens and if it comes good I'll hold my hands up. For now though, I'm not as bothered about the show's developments.

I think we can blame whoever is in charge of it at BBC America too. I wouldn't be surprised if they were sticking their oar in more than they should. If they get it wrong with the new doctor, then it's done imo, if they make an interesting choice, then I'll give it a look, but, if they don't improve on the poor quality writing/directing and acting that the last series had, then fuck it, I'll be giving it a miss.
They are on the verge of killing it, so they need to improve things right from the get go, or not bother.

I couldn't be more under-whelmed.
The very fact that they are making a special show to reveal 'the secret' makes me cringe beyond belief, I won't even bother tuning in to suffer it.

Like much of the recent Who, it has all the hallmarks of being a nod to the american audience, it's just not something us brits really do, we don't make a song and dance about things in this way.

I'll stick my neck out here and say I don't think Capaldi will get it, whatever the bookies think, I just think he's too old. The whole americanisation thing makes me think we may see a black doctor, it feels like the sort of move that would go down well across the sea. A female doctor may be a step too far, especially when we have just got a fairly new female companion settled in, but a black doctor, that may just pander to the american tv execs who write the cheques, and be sufficiently acceptable to the audience.

The guy from Peep Show is in the running, and he's got good credentials, he's black, but he's got a good clean image, and a strong british accent, he isn't too ghetto, something which may frighten the tv execs, especially in america, middle class black is OK, ghetto black, too dangerous!

It makes me angry the way Dr Who has been mishandled by the BBC over the years. They killed it off in the Sylvester McCoy era because the suits could not fathom out whether it was for kids or adults.
When Russell T Davies brought it back it was refreshing and edgy, with well thought out storylines. Sadly in the 3 years that Moffat has been at the helm all that good work has been wasted. Perhaps instead of Matt Smith leaving, it should be Moffat...hell knows, his regeneration is much needed.

They've let it slip that the next Dr will be male.
