RE: Formula 1 - Rammyrascal - 11-12-2014 10:20

Magnussen is going to be retained as the 3rd/reserve driver according to Sky sports news hq

RE: Formula 1 - Bandwagon - 11-12-2014 11:06

I'm pleased that Jenson has retained his seat for another year, especially since he did score more than double the points of Magnussen in 2014. It would have seemed unfair of them to shunt Jenson and keep Magnussen. I suppose Jenson being willing to accept half his previous salary has helped them reach this decision too.
McLaren seem quite confident in Alonso though, with a reported £40M deal they have offered him over the next two years. Alonso is also seemingly convinced of McLaren's performance by leaving Ferrari who did beat McLaren this year. Perhaps Honda have built an amazing engine with huge potential for 2015? It wouldn't surprise me.
So I guess it's a good time to wish Jenson good luck for next year, I'd love to see him win a second championship before he retires. Unfortunately I think a certain new Spanish team mate could put the kibosh on that plan though.
Come on Jenson, take off the gloves and come out swinging!

McLaren have just confirmed via twitter that they are using Jenson Button next year

Appearently McLaren are after a new sponsor and they wanted Jenson in the line up

RE: Formula 1 - Rammyrascal - 11-12-2014 14:14

Right decision by mclaren to keep button to drive alongside alonso. He had a very good 2014, especially the 2nd half of the season which for me probably swung it his way. Think what also swung it his way is his Fiancée Jessica. Jessica is Japanese (like mclaren's new engine supplier Honda) and as a result Jenson is very well known in Asia and will boost mclaren and Honda in asia

Well theres a good chance that there could be 3 car teams eventually

good to see jensen stay though

I don't think a Multi billion pound company/racing team is going to base it's business decisions on the nationality of one of it's employees wives.... Jenson Buttons wife would have 0 influence...

I suppose you think Barcelona give Pique a new contract because Shakira might appeal to the Colombian market? Rolleyes

Or Mercedes signed Hamilton because Nicole Scherzinger would appeal to Americans and people that like yoghurts?.. Rolleyes

RE: Formula 1 - Bandwagon - 11-12-2014 16:22

No, it's not Jenson's wife but Jenson does have ties with Honda after racing with them previously. I believe this aspect was considered amongst others including the 2014 points difference between Jenson and Magnussen.
But like any other sport, the predominant factor will be funds from available sponsors, and as previously mentioned the fact that Jenson is willing to take £6M per year instead of £12M.
So it's all about the money isn't it.

RE: Formula 1 - jozefbloggz - 11-12-2014 19:17

at last the decision has been made,BRILLIANT to see jenson staying at mclaren, who now have a formidable line up for next season,if the honda engine is good right out of the box it should make a very close fight betweeen mclaren and mercedes and red bull seem to have made great strides forward,so hopefully a good close fight all the way next year between some very closely matched rivals ,im a happy chappie

RE: Formula 1 - kelly1066 - 11-12-2014 20:21

Sheer skill.... and perhaps a word or two from Alonso; who said he prefered to have an experienced colleague for testing and development purposes; as well as his previous work with Honda...... Best decision made in the end. Interesting though that JB's only signed a one year contract, so perhaps KM agreed to take a step back in lieu of a return with good contract after then?
