RE: UFC - gazfc - 12-12-2010 16:31 Still waiting for it to hit the newsgroups, hope it's as good as the boxing was lastnight RE: UFC - BaddaBing - 12-12-2010 16:40 Great main event, brilliant! RE: UFC - mitchell - 12-12-2010 17:23 (11-12-2010 14:01 )mitchell Wrote: UFC 124 Thiago Alves v John Howard A very well polished performance from the 'Pitbull' this was the kind of opponent he's been waiting for after some of the difficult styles he's faced in recent fights. Alves came out with the intention of putting Howard under pressure from the off with some crisp Muay Thai striking & totally dominated the big punching Howard to earn a much needed win, it'll be interesting to see if the UFC sticks to their decision to move him up to middleweight or give him one last shot at GSP??? Joe Stevenson v Mac Danzig WOW!!!... Hey when you need a win what better way. Just like the 'Daddy' i doubt anyone saw this coming, this KO reminded me of the Anderson Silva KO of Forrest Griffin with a slight flick of the wrist, pure quality, Stevenson's head didn't even move he just went straight down to give Danzig possibly a UFC career saving win, what now for Joe Stevenson??? he'll be dreading the next phone call from Mr White??? Jim Miller v Charles Oliveira Much as i expected with this fight, the young Brazilian is a great prospect but against the much more experienced Miller it showed when put under pressure he surprisingly tapped very early. Jim Miller quite rightly asked where his title shot is, 19-2 over all & 8-1 in the UFC & with BJ Penn out of the lightweight picture will Miller get his chance to face the winner of Frankie Edgar v Gray Maynard??? Stefan Struve v Sean McCorkle The 'Skyscraper' once again shows his quality by coming back from a difficult position to finish a fight, he didn't look in too much danger when McCorkle was trying to work the kimura & reversed the inexperienced McCorkle with some ease to earn a groundnpound win. I wouldn't be surprised if he now faces Brenden Schaub in his next fight although i do feel he's earned a shot at the UFC heavyweight title. Georges St-Pierre v Josh Koscheck What should've been a great fight turned out to be another one sided GSP five rounder. Koscheck got his tactics all wrong in thinking he could stand in front of GSP & just hope to land the big right hand for someone who's a top class wrestler & a good kickboxer he should've used the octagon more & thrown some kicks to set up some takedowns, but for the first six & a half minutes he was obviously just looking to land the big right & it resulted in letting the formidable Georges St-Pierre settle into his rhythm & put to work his early game strategy. Speaking of which it was the perfect game plan that saw GSP pretty much earn the victory inside the first 8-10 minutes, knowing that Koscheck will try to utilise the right hand GSP set to work on the right eye of Koscheck with a jabbing master class knowing that if he could close the eye early on then Koscheck will not be able to see the left sided attacks but also he will have to use his right hand to cover up thus meaning he won't be throwing it very often. The only problem i've got with GSP, i thought he may try to put on the kind of performance he showed in the rematch against Matt Serra when he was all over Serra with his fast paced up & down game plan, he did pretty much the same here but with the jab, jumping in & out so Koscheck couldn't get close but i think if he wanted to in the last two rounds he could've attempted some takedowns to give himself the opportunity to go for the groundnpound win as it didn't look like he was gonna throw any punches which could've brought a KO, he's now 5-3 in UD wins since his first fight with Koscheck, i hope we see him getting back to trying to finish fights from now on. RE: UFC - groundnpound - 12-12-2010 23:09 Great post again Mitchell. Also like to welcome Luke01 to the thread.Good to have you mate!Really enjoyed last nights show! Awesome atmosphere...Top stuff!Watching it again now. Thought GSP was fantastic.Kinda ran out of ways to praise the guy?So cool, calm, composed.THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER.That's what the sports all about. What a role model. He fought immensely last night.Completely controlled the whole fight with his jab.The work he done with Freddie Roach was defo worth while.I think he totally stunned Koscheck with his approach and style in the fight.Koschecks heart was ripped out by GSP with that stinging jab.His eye was almost closed after round 1. I think Georges will move up to middleweight. No one can touch him at Welter now. He's the kind of guy who needs fresh challenges and the thought of a fight against Anderson Silva is already in my mind. The rest of the card was a breath of fresh air and short and sweet in the most part.Thiago Alves looked back to his very best which was great to see!I think he could clear up that division and be champion (if GSP moves up). Don't think Struve could trouble any of the top Heavyweights.I think he would get smashed to pieces by the likes of Velasquez,Dos Santos,Lesnar and Carwin. He's awkward all right though given the size of the lad but i would fear for the big nutcase in amongst the top lads. He's put together a decent little run though. Enjoyed the show very much. I think 2010 has been a quality year in the UFC.Some fantastic Fights and great shows and we end the year with some unbelievable champions like GSP,Silva and Velasquez. Would like to say thanks to all of you lads for posting some quality stuff in the thread throughout the year aswell.Well done lads. Let's hope 2011 brings us more of the same. RE: UFC - TDK2008 - 13-12-2010 07:06 Thank you GSP!!! RE: UFC - HEX!T - 13-12-2010 07:21 to be honest i was a little dissapointed with gsp. although he won i was hoping for a more definitive performance rather than staying on the outside and popping off at a distance. i was hoping for a stand up war or at least some rather painful ground and pound. the rest of the card iv'e yet to watch but from what iv'e read here and there it seems like it will be worth the watch. RE: UFC - groundnpound - 13-12-2010 15:18 Think he wanted to punish Koscheck for as long as possible Hexit and give the fans what they wanted to see.He said after the fight that he was disapointed not to have finished him off though.I thought it was a brilliant performance and for me it was as good as a stoppage as he really beat his face up for 5 rounds. All credit to Josh though not every fighter would have took the challenge of facing GSP in his own yard.I like Koscheck. He can be a wind up at times but i think it's just natural for him to play the villain. The rest of the card is well worth a watch mate. You should enjoy it. RE: UFC - gazfc - 13-12-2010 16:06 Great ppv and a great performance from GSP, even I cant deny that RE: UFC - 199lives - 13-12-2010 17:03 Enjoyed this more than recent ppv's for some reason, GSP is just ridiculous, just seems such a complete fighter wrestling, bjj and striking and mixes it all together better than just about anyone. can't see anyone getting close to him at welter. he gets some stick for not finishing fights and since the Serra lose does stay fairly cautious but heard a stat that since then he's lost one round, thats just domination. Don't think Struve is anywhere near a title fight just yet, he's lost two fights ago and he's still young for a heavyweight. don't see any reason to rush him just bring him on slowly and let him improve. his problem might be in a few years making weight as he is so tall. when asked Dana white said in a interview afterwards that he likes people that come to fight and stevenson always comes to fight, sort of hinting he wouldn't be cut but you never know. Alves looked like he's dropped some muscle bulk, think he made weight easier really sharp and accurate. Added misery for Koscheck he's broke his orbital bone around his eye and couldn't get medical clearance to fly home to california, so had to drive to Boston for surgery RE: UFC - mitchell - 14-12-2010 00:14 GSP will now fight Jake Shields in his next fight, 1 unconvincing split decision win & he fights for the title, & some people suggested i was wrong to say Stefan Struve might get a title shot |
