RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - babefan2012 - 30-03-2020 18:33 Didn’t see that, not been keeping the biggest eye on this thread if it was posted a few days ago. Yeah the way the numbers are counted varies insanely, I saw somewhere the U.K. has only 100 or so recovered cases yet 1,000’s of confirmed or active cases. Been mainly looking at here; https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - TickleTheOrc - 30-03-2020 18:55 (30-03-2020 18:33 )babefan2012 Wrote: Didn’t see that, not been keeping the biggest eye on this thread if it was posted a few days ago. Been mainly looking at here; https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ Also have to keep in mind that the numbers we're seeing are from people that got infected 1-2 weeks ago and got tested/dead/recovering. So there is a bunch of ways for a wide margin of error. The problem with most of the governments that failed to properly deal with the outbreak is that they took the least destructive model of the virus and went with that. At the bare minimum, we'd have expected sane government officials to at least have gone with the modest models of how bad the pandemic could turn out instead of the rosiest of models. In essence, a bunch of world leaders gambled against Covid-19 and now, a lot of people are going to die. I still can't believe some Republicans in the US want to give Trump a victory lap for only possibly letting 200k people possibly die instead of the doomsday 1 million - 1.5 million worst case model. With how bad the spread is due to Trump's misinformation. 200k seems to be a rosey ass number right now, which is grim as f*ck. RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - babefan2012 - 30-03-2020 19:25 Anyway I'm done with commenting on this situation, sorry if i've caused any offence to anyone I really didnt intend to. Certainly didn't want to come across as racist in any way shape or form as I am not. I struggle to put into words at times what I think, maybe should hold off ever commenting on a forum when I am like I am right. Also maybe I speak too forthright. Once again I apologise. Right now I am pretty stressed and overall very frustrated and angry with everything thats happening right now, I'm sure there's people in a way worse position than myself so really not much excuse but non the less its true. For the sake of everyone here I will no longer comment on this as all I will no doubt do is cause more trouble than I intended. Best to keep what I think to myself, especially as I no doubt cant put it into correct words. Maybe i should have left after all. Peace out. RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - Don Tingley - 30-03-2020 19:46 babefan2012, my opinion fwiw, you had a pretty serious accusation made against you so i've had a good read back through what has been posted and i can't see anything even close to racist that you have posted. Mentioning the country is not racist. Same with people who talk about religion, it is not racist to talk about the religion. You (rightly or wrongly) made a generalisation, that would be the way to describe what you said. Maybe the poster will realise their error and apologise, or maybe they won't. Either way, nothing racist was posted here and i would go as far as to say that is a fact. RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - ShandyHand - 30-03-2020 20:12 This is a subject that is bound to cause strong feeling. I would rather see that emotion expressed even if the expression comes over incorrectly and has to be corrected in subsequent posts than have it shouted down and guys made to feel they have to stop posting. There is little point in a forum if people can not express troubling opinions. I hope forumites can judge a poster and his words on the strength of more than just one post - misjudged or not actually. RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - lovebabes56 - 31-03-2020 06:39 We probably may never know the true figures others than those that are posted on the WHO site, but one thing is sure they are likely to come close to the Spanish Flu figures or beat them and I think that is probably the only yardstick many scientists are looking at to see how serious this could be. Yes, we probably got caught on the back foot a little but hopefully now, we are getting a measure on how to tackle it. However, we must continue to do our bit to help the NHS and follow advice as much as possible. When the crisis is over, we will then know what the true human cost has been in this country. But whatever happens the economies of the world have taken a hit probably far bigger than the financial crash of 2008 and will be taking quite some tme to recover to where they were before the outbreak. LET'S ALL STAY SAFE!!!! RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - Goodfella3041 - 31-03-2020 07:02 Funnily enough, the day the lockdown started, I had the same sinking feeling that I had in 2008 when Lehman Bros went down. It was eerily exactly the same. Like 24 hours of deja vu. This feeling that nothing is going to be the same after this and it will take a generation for the impact to really be understood. We'll update the body count on a daily basis and eventually we'll come out of our caves. But there is no telling how this has changed us. Trumpism and Brexit were - imo - the direct consequence of 2008. The consequence of coronavirus could be something good and hopeful ... or it could be something far worse. ![]() RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - terence - 31-03-2020 07:51 ^hopefully, it'll change us for the better. be slightly less capitalist and out for one's self and a bit more socially minded. RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - HannahsPet - 31-03-2020 08:54 See kevin mcguire saying we should have a GE election after all of this ![]() ![]() hoping the key lessons learnt is that low paid workers are needed in the economy and treated by more respect and paid better RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - Charlemagne - 31-03-2020 11:54 I see that Paul Chuckle has coronavirus. Which has spawned many to comment of "Two metres, to you". ![]() But seriously he's 72 years old, so I wishing him well. |
