best quote of the year....
"wow that cut is ugly, it looks like a goats vagina" .... joe rogan, used it to describe Chris Lytles cut. still funny even if it was the second time he's used it.

RE: UFC - groundnpound - 29-12-2010 01:02

How's it goin lads? Found these two bits on the net that kinda point toward Lesnar and Mir being the coaches on TUF 13.In sayin that i also heard a ruomour that Lesnar was planning to walk away from MMA altogther after his defeat to Velasquez. So who knows???

First Article

Despite his requests for a fight with former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir, “TUF 10″ finalist Brendan Schaub (7-1) will instead face another giant heavyweight in Dutch fighter Stefan “The Skyscraper” Struve (21-4).

News of the bout surfaced on Monday afternoon through Sportsnet.ca reporter Joe Ferraro who confirmed the bout through a source close to the fight. The source told him that the bout would take place on the March 3rd event, UFC on Versus 3 which airs live from Louisville, Kentucky.

Schaub has won three straight in the UFC since losing at the “TUF” finale to teammate Roy “Big Country” Nelson in December of 2009. Since that loss he’s gone on to score victories over Chase Gormley at UFC LIVE: Vera vs. Jones, Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 116, and Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 121.

Struve just finished competing at UFC 124 where he won easily over Sean McCorkle in the nights co-main event. It was the fifth UFC win for Struve as he improves to 5-2. The Dutch fighter has won two in a row now since his loss to Nelson in March, having earned the “Knockout of the Night” honor after coming back from a first round pummeling at the hands of Christian Morecraft at UFC 117.

UFC on Versus 3 has not been officially announced, will likely be headlined by a UFC welterweight match between Digo Sanchez vs. Martin Kampmann. Fans can expect the Schaub vs. Struve fight to co-anchor the show as the co-main event.

Second Article

Brock Lesnar is a man of few words.

He doesn’t like cameras, he doesn’t like attention, so a coaching stint on the next season of “The Ultimate Fighter” would seem like the furthest thing from reality…but it could very well be happening soon.

Recently rumors have circulated concerning the next season of TUF, as far as who will take up the coaching slots. Fighters ranging from Wanderlei Silva, Chael Sonnen, Urijah Faber, and Dominick Cruz have all been discussed as possible candidates to coach the upcoming field of welterweight/middleweight fighters, however all signs point to former champions Lesnar and arch rival Frank Mir.

Mir was rumored to face Brendan Schaub in the first quarter of 2011, however plans have changed. Suddenly, Schaub, who was a finalist on the tenth season of “The Ultimate Fighter” is now scheduled to take on budding prospect Stefan Struve in an upcoming event in the beginning of the new year. No event has been pegged, however verbal agreements are in place according to MMAWeekly.com.

Frank is no stranger to the reality show. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist was featured as the head coach opposite of former UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Minotauro Nogueira on season eight, which culminated in December of 2008.

Mir was last seen in action when he defeated former PRIDE champion Mirko Cro Cop at UFC 119 this past September. After a sluggish first-two rounds turned in, Frank unleashed a big knee in the third round which knocked out the Croation striker in the final moments of the fight.

Lesnar, meanwhile, recently relinquished the heavyweight strap when he was paired up with proud Mexican-American Cain Velasquez. The South Dakota native stormed the American Kickboxing Academy product early, however Velasquez’ superior stand up came into play and in the waning moments of the fight, Cain was able to record the TKO victory and claim both “Knockout of the Night” honors and the heavyweight title last October at UFC 121 in Anaheim, Cali.

Both Mir and Lesnar are very familiar with each other, which can only be described as a huge understatement. Frank got the first crack at Brock when he made his inception into the worlds largest mixed martial arts organization when the two men met at UFC 81 in February of 2008, eventually submitted the former WWE star with a knee bar.

Lesnar exacted revenge 17-months later after claiming the title from then champion Randy Couture. In a battle to unify Brock’s strap and Mir’s interim title (which he claimed in a victory of Antonio at UFC 92), the NCAA wrestling champion unleashed an aggressive dose of ground-and-pound on Mir, eventually stopping the Las Vegas resident in the second round.

Now it seems that both men will be able to settle the score in the near future, but only after what will soon look to be an intense season between the two. Both Brock and Mir have shared words between one another both in the cage and in the media, but never before on TV for millions of people to see. Maybe, now they will.

RE: UFC - mitchell - 29-12-2010 01:36

I thought these two would meet in the next fight or 2 but Schaub v Struve is a no go as Brenden Schaub v Cro Cop is set for UFC 128 in March.

I can & can't see Mir & Lesnar on TUF, 1. They are gonna fight at some point in 2011 & being on TUF would drum up mass amounts of interest GSP, Koscheck style & Lesnar may also need this to keep people interested in him as fans like me were never that bothered by him in the first place so now don't give a shit if he steps into the octagon again or not.
2. He is well known to not like people sharing his gym & only has one other fighter in there with him & his team so to train 12-24 fighters on a tv show wouldn't be his cup of PG & with his attitude being forced on you every week would drive the fans who still like him away when they see he's just a sour faced donkey. He needs to concentrate on improving his own skills before opening his wrestling school upto a worldwide tv audience, but then again who knows this is the UFC after all & Dana loves nothing more than publicity which is what TUF 13, Lesnar v Mir 3 would give him...

RE: UFC - groundnpound - 29-12-2010 02:02

Schaub could end up fighting either one?Could be a toss up?Would prefer to see him fight Struve though. Both guys are on nice winning runs.Would be a cracking fight.

A fight with Cro Cop would be a rising talent (Schaub) vs a veteran (Mirko)...Could be good also.

RE: UFC - mitchell - 01-01-2011 12:32

My first ever forum post was in groundnpound's UFC Thread so i thought i'd start the new year off with my second favorite sportSmile before i head over to see the Captain, here's my customary pre event predictions.

UFC 125 RESOLUTION ESPN 3AM. Live Prelims 2AM-2:30AM

Thiago Silva v Brandon Vera
After a 13-0 (4-0 UFC) start he's just had his first 2 losses albeit to Lyoto Machida & Rashad Evans & he still needs to improve but i think the new year (Maybe 3/4 fights) will be a good one for the Brazilian. I've never really rated Brandon Vera that highly & with 5 losses in his last 8 this maybe a do or die fight with regards to his UFC career. A tough fight. Thiago Silva TKO
Takanori Gomi v Clay Guida
This should be a good fight to kick off the new year. A bit of a mix latley from Gomi 3-3 but he's still new to the UFC & has a big test with the always exciting Clay Guida who is on a 2 fight win streak after goin 7-8 between 2006-2010, but he still remains in the UFC as he always gives 120% in his fights with his never say die style. Clay Guida Split Decision
Dong Hyun Kim v Nate Diaz
What a fight this is gonna be!!! Hyun Kim 15-13-1-1NC, Diaz 18-13-5, with both fighter good on the ground & in the stand up, Hyun Kim has 4 UFC wins with 1 no contest & Diaz 8-3 but is 3-3 in his last 6 & once again fights in the welterweight division, this will be a quality fight. Nick Diaz Submission
Chris Leben v Brian Stann
Leben is on a 3 fight win streak & it seems fighting (In the UFC) is a getaway from his personal life which is mostly spent drunk in a jail sell so he will no doubt welcom the chance to get back to work. I've not seen or can't remember much of Brian Stann but with a good WEC career & a 9-3 record he seems like a good fighter. Chris Leben KO
Frankie Edgar v Gray Maynard
The big test has arrived for both fighters here, is Frankie Edgar a true champion or has Gray Maynard's time finally come??? Edgar is 8-1 in the UFC with his only loss to Gray Maynard. Maynard has won all 8 of his UFC fights with 1 no contest & both fighters have a crazy unanimous decision record Edgar 8 UD's from 13 wins, Maynard 8 UD's from 10 wins. Gray Maynard Errrr Unanimous Decision

Enjoy the show & Happy New Year to all my fellow UFC fans
MitchellSmile

RE: UFC - groundnpound - 02-01-2011 00:13

Thanks for your 1st post of the year Mitchell. You're a proper legend. Wink

This is my first post of 2011 also.

Think it's a really interesting card tonight with some brilliant fights possible.Another thing i've noticed is that it's full of fighters i don't like lol Diaz(just a wide lad),Guida(The way he bounces around the octagon),Leben(Paints his nails)...Need i say more?

Would like Nate Diaz and Chris Leben to get ironed out tonight.. lol Shame on me.Come on on Brian and Dong!

* Lightweight Championship:Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard:I've had a funny feeling all week that this might just go the distance.Possibly... Rolleyes So with that in mind im gonna go for a Maynard repeat victory.Maynard UD
* Chris Leben vs. Brian Stann:Chris...U paint ur nails, your bevvied 24/7 and your fighting a Marine...Forget about it.Stann TKO
* Brandon Vera vs. Thiago Silva:Thiago is in a different league from his opponent here.Like Mitchell says he's only been beaten by Machida and Evans.Silva to good.Silva KO Round 1
* Nate Diaz vs. Dong Hyun Kim:Please Dong do me a favour lad and beat this guy up tonight!Fight of the night surely this one. We're gonna get sheer blood and guts from Diaz but for me Dong will pounce on a mistake to keep his unbeaten record.Dong Hyun Kim TKO Punches
* Clay Guida vs.Takanori Gomi:Guida will probs take this one but Gomi is no mug...So... im gonna go for Gomi eek to catch Guida with a good shot(similar to his fight with Griffin)and take victory.Gomi TKO Punches.

Happy New Year Lads.Tonight should be a good show.Hope you enjoy it. Smile

RE: UFC - 199lives - 02-01-2011 00:45

close fights not even gonna bother trying to predict any outcomes. I like that thiago Silva's back lost a close fight to Evans with a big back injury been out for a while. when you've had to fight your way out of the favelas, no wonder he always looks so angry all the time
