Kevin Pietersen looked impressive in the Australian 20 over big bash.

It wasn't the big hitting Kevin of old. Just a guy who wanted to bat through the innings and make sure of the victory.

Alastair Cook has resigned as England test captain after four years

RE: Cricket Banter - Charlemagne - 06-02-2017 13:25

Let's hope that he's stays on as England's opener. He's still our best option.

RE: Cricket Banter - lovebabes56 - 06-02-2017 19:34

That's what I'm hoping too - resigning the England captaincy will probably be a relief to him!!
I think joe Root will be named captain at some point

RE: Cricket Banter - hops1 - 06-02-2017 19:55

Not a shock bit of news given his comments at the end of the Test series in India. I think he'll go down in history as a good captain, but perhaps just short of the all time greats.

Joe Root surely next up.

RE: Cricket Banter - lovebabes56 - 09-02-2017 05:04

I think Cook's only failings have been that his tactical side let him down - which left England in sometimes almost impossible situations - although I think his win percentage probably had that side of his game been better would have been a lot higher than it deserved to be and I think Root's the only stand out candidate and I would be very surprised if he turns it down, but he would be our sixth youngest England captain if named but I think if he does take it on Then the press have to back off a bit give him room to breathe and do his thing but the only that makes me wary of choosing him id that how much of a dip in his form will the effects of being captain will take - whether that happens in the same way as it did to Beefy - remains to be seen because certainly Root has probably more than his best years ahead of him to be one of the game's truly all time greats, but certainly he would be having a tough initiation into the job with the Ashes tour in Australia on the horizon.
As for Cook may be now we can see him finally flourish with the bat again and enjoy opening the batting again, but I wouldn't be surprised if he dropped to no.3 as I'm sure Root would want a new opening pairing. Time will tell

Joe Root confirmed as Test captain. A very good if unsurprising choice

RE: Cricket Banter - Charlemagne - 13-02-2017 22:47

Am I correct in thinking that the next time he plays for England will be in the West Indies during early March.
And as the matches are just ODI he'll & vice captain Ben Stokes will be under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan

RE: Cricket Banter - hops1 - 13-02-2017 23:04

Yeah, I think Root will be Test captain only with Morgan retaining the ODI captaincy. This may seem a bit strange, but Strauss has committed to bringing one day success to England and with Morgan having overseen a decent rivival he'll be one day captain still.
