I think '96 was the last time I could say I was really proud and got excited, France '98 had moments, but since then there has only ever been glimpses. There was the odd game here or there, or the rare moment of class e.g Beckham against Greece, last minute. But on the whole I've been left disappointed. The "Golden Generation" was paper hype and I fell for it, and every time we lost or went out it killed my love for the national side.I'm sure Martin Samuel would disagree with you on that, just imagine if England won the Euros, the look on his face would be priceless RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - malicious fan - 19-06-2012 23:44 (19-06-2012 23:40 )terence Wrote: my fear is the media getting carried away and IF it goes wrong the team and hodgson getting slaughtered!so they shud, losers ![]() (19-06-2012 23:40 )terence Wrote: my fear is the media getting carried away with it all and IF it goes wrong the team and hodgson getting slaughtered!us english always get carried away mate, every tournament we r always the same and even this one when no1 was expectin anythin to start with, its all changin now weve topped r group! it will probably end the same as always, i mite hav a bet that we lose on pens in the semis against the German's! we will never learn RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - Money_Shot - 19-06-2012 23:48 (19-06-2012 23:40 )terence Wrote: my fear is the media getting carried away and IF it goes wrong the team and hodgson getting slaughtered! Simple solution to that is stay well clear from newspapers. They are all on Harry's side and still wielding those knives together waiting for the big fall. As I said a couple of posts up, this group of players, the back room staff and more importantly, Roy Hodgson have installed some much needed national pride back into the national side. I'm glad we haven't dazzled and pissed our way through this group, it gives you a feel of still being the under dog. We've battled and fought through every game, moments and decisions of tactical genius. English fans have needed a dose of reality since the phrase "Golden Generation." We got it when the 'wally with the brolly' failed to qualify, and we got it again in South Africa with an utterly embarrassing and shite tournament. This time it was the fans doubting us, it was the media doubting us and the expectation was low. Yes it has been ramped up, but I think most fans are grounded at the moment. Excited yes, but grounded. I can't wait for Sunday, as long as we play with passion and fight then I will be proud however it ends. COME ON ENGLAND!!!!! RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - LatexRyan - 19-06-2012 23:52 So England will play Italy in the QFs - I see a horsing fast approaching. I can't find it now but I'm sure Sky Sports News tweeted that Rooney thought that Italy would not look forward to a clash with England - I'm sure Italy are far more confident of their chances against what is a mediocre England side at best rather than France. RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - Money_Shot - 19-06-2012 23:54 Dan - Martin Samuals can go fuck himself. I really can't stand that bloke. He kept trying to kick Hodgson down before he'd even managed a game. All because he pal Harry didn't get in. He's a reporter reporting bias opinions against Roy Hodgson because of his own agenda. Him and the other London hacks knew if Harry got in charge they'd all of had back stage passes to the England camp, they'd have been rubbing shoulders with the team and had "Exclusives" nearly every day. With Hodgson that was never going to happen because he's professional in the way he works. I'm glad the F.A picked Roy, he trusts the squad and his faith in the players shows. They respect him as he does them. They look relaxed yet hungry. They are missing their best defender, have two head cases up front, although Cassano is very good and Pirlo gets tired in matches. I think Italy will go back to their 3-5-2 formation and put de Rossi back in defence RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - HannahsPet - 20-06-2012 07:59 Christ from all the negativity from talksport about need to improve you would have thought we lost last night RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - lovebabes56 - 20-06-2012 08:23 Italy haven't really shown us what they can do, but we'll find out Sumday, what they are capable of. I don't remember when we last beat Italy in a competitve match. I thought we played well last night, but felt in the second half we lapsed a little in defence and were fortunate not have conceded a goal. Joe Hart needs to command that area a little more. I would think it would be best to put Carroll up front Sunday, just to give the Italians something to think about. But overall a very solid perfomance last night. RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - HannahsPet - 20-06-2012 08:51 hodgsons got it right whats the point of playing at our full maximum in 3 games and showing the opposition what we got. the only time we need to up our game when we behind against sweden he changed it and got the result we needed. would have playing teams out of the park increased our chances in the quarters no seriously hope we beat italy and get germany in the semi's as its payback time for SA ![]() RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - Charlemagne - 20-06-2012 12:06 Surprise, surprise.. after Ukraine's goal was not allowed, FIFA's idiot president Sepp Blatter has announced goalline technology is now a 'necessity'. UEFA's five-official system, which is preferred by president Michel Platini as an alternative to goalline technology, is currently on trial at Euro 2012. But as the offical failed to see the ball over the line from 10 feet then it must be deamed to have failed to test. |
