The treasury just released a document, with accompanying figures, which claims that an independent Scotland wouldn't cope with another banking crisis.

Swinney's (predictable) response - "This is just a feeble attempt to undermine confidence"

No, John. It's your response that's feeble. How about a properly thought out counter argument of your own, with some figures, for once.

Really getting pissed off with the SNP's 'trust us, we know best' attitude. Anyone know when the Vote Yes campaign is actually going to start, so we can start to make up our own minds?
Or are we going to have to put up with this shit for the next 18months? bladewave

I meant when are they going to start debating the issues properly, in the media, instead of just sneering at everything the other side says Rolleyes

Will be interesting if the Yes vote wins. Presumably Scots living in England will need a passport and will be treated the same as European migrant workers, as will English people living in Scotland. Big Grin

The date for Scottish independence has been named. Scotland will be independent on 24 March 2016 if voters choose independence in the forthcoming referendum, the Deputy First Minister has announced.

I did notice that the day after the "No" lobby had a report that Scotland would lose a fortune through independence, the "Yes" lobby managed to produce a report saying exactly the opposite Tongue

I have this funny feeling that Scottish independence will leave the country a lot like their football league!! Meaningless!!

Nearly ten months on from the parlimentary enquiry of the defence experts in relation to Scotlands defence (maritime assets, coast guard, psuedo-navy, air force and standing armed forces) and still absolutely no answers as to what a Scottish defence force would look like.

The SNP keep using the comparison with 'other nations in Europe of comparable size' answer for pretty much everything but what they fail to mention is that the countries they are using in those examples have existed independently as nations for at least 700 years!

The countries have existed and built up their entire standing with treaties, trade etc. for a very long time and for Scotland to think she can just jump in and start swimming at the head of the race, which is where she'll need to be to remain afloat (sorry, too many water references), is just nieve at best.

In relation to the catch all 'oil revenues will pay for it' answer given to many finance questions, how is Scotland planning to defend her offshore assets if she has virtually no naval vessels, military or coast guard?

And as for welfare costs being paid for out of the oil and gas money pot, no one seems to have factored in that Scots will have to pay considerably more for their health care than they do now as the UK treasury won't be giving them that extra 12% more per head the standard UK expense (btw, Wales currently gets 14% extra per head).

So many questions and so few answers, that is how the 'Yes' campaign is going. Salmond better start thinking about practicing his after-dinner speaking, is all I can say!
