ATVOD has been in place for some time, but currently only has jurisdiction over sites containing streaming content. Although this site is imposing this charge to cover images, it may also have streaming content elsewhere, and therefore fall under ATVOD control.

It wont happen but I would love to see American courts pissing themselves with laughter when British authorities try extraditing US porn site operators for not having age verification.

^^^ The US televise their courts as well, finally something worth watching on TV Smile
Sadly won't happen of course, they'll just run to the ISP's and get them to block these sites, and they will obediently comply.

...Until people get fed up enough to walk away from the ISP's that keep complying or vote out the wankers that keep asking the ISP's to comply with this sort of stuff.

Not having age verification isn't an extraditable offence anyway, but if the UK and the USA happened to agree a new extradition treaty which made it an extraditable offence then there wouldn't be much that American courts could do about it.

Having just wasted an evening searching for something I found the following link by accident. Nearly didnt post it, but someone might find it informative.

It is by a barrister specialising in obscenity law, setting out what is and is not legal on ATVOD regulated websites.
Obscenity Lawer Blogspot

Bizarrely fisting - inserting a hand past the last knuckle - is illegal, but inserting "all five digits of two or more hands would be acceptable as long as not past last knuckle".
"or more" Surprised

He also states "Ofcom have sought medical guidance on fisting and don't believe it to be a dangerous act to perform"

Where Labour stands on porn filters - its a bit vague

Labour supports Tory porn age-restrictions

Wired mag 1 May
Quote:"Labour is supportive of proposals to introduce age-restriction checks on online pornography sites," a party spokesperson told WIRED.co.uk. When asked if this support meant Labour had its own specific plans to introduce similar measures, the spokesperson did not respond.

And for balance, here is an excerpt from the Greens policy:

Ban-ifesto: Here's everything the Green Party wants to get rid of

London Loves Business 14 May
Lads mags and porn in supermarkets and newsagents

I see the EU has adopted something called the 'Digital Single Market Strategy'.
Haven't read much about it yet, but as far as I can see, this is aimed at producing a level playing field across europe for digital services. The main area being spoken about is things like Netflix and other such services that offer different options, and different content in different countries. The movie industry in particular is notorious for offering different release dates for movies and dvd's or online content in different parts of the world. The idea is to stop this practice and accept that the internet is a global thing that crosses national boundaries, so such regional differences make no sense.

I wonder if this could be a stumbling block on the work of ATVOD and the attempt to restrict access to porn sites in the UK. Will the EU decide that such a restrictive practice is not fair, and the same rules for accessing porn have to apply as in all other european union countries.
This may be wishful thinikng, but it could prove interesting.

Tory plans may get an unsymapathetic hearing given more relaxed European attitudes.
The chart does not tell the full story about small countries - with a population of 543,000 Luxembourg must claim the title of most adult channels per capita. Italy has surprisingly few channels, but they do have plenty of parties.
