RE: BBC Sports Personality of the Year - Roger Patterson - 21-12-2015 11:12 Yes the racism argument must be the lamest ever. Last year McIlroy’s astonishing year included back-to-back major triumphs, a World Golf Championship win, a crucial part in the Ryder Cup success and being ranked the world No.1 - and unlike Hamilton his amazing achievements weren't achieved with a clear competitive advantage over his rivals. And yet Hamilton still won the award. Sports Personality of the Year is definitely about timing. It's like the comedy awards when the programme that wins the award happens to be the one that's being shown on TV when the vote is held. RE: BBC Sports Personality of the Year - kelly1066 - 21-12-2015 11:41 Did no one else also notice the high percentage of the other awards that went to persons from the host nation this year too...?? Awful lot more Irish winners than usual; but of course nothing to do with Belfast paying to host to event..?? Heaven forbid!! RE: BBC Sports Personality of the Year - terence - 21-12-2015 11:45 ^don't be silly. remove the tin foil hat, it's all gonna be ok. The Davis Cup win fell just perfectly for this competition - 2 days before the list was announced! It was actually 2 days AFTER the list was announced - even better timing! Because I'm biased towards my own choice of sport. Just like everybody else. RE: BBC Sports Personality of the Year - Whynot - 21-12-2015 12:34 Lame.... yeah sure.... Lewis won, so how can there be racism.. i mean as it was pointed out yesterday 5 bame people have won in 60 years. Stupid me for raising the issue, i will go back to keeping quiet. Past winners include Lennox Lewis, Fatima Whitbread, Linford Christiei, Kelly Holmes & Lewis Hamilton. I agree Farah would be a deserved winner but timing is everything & the Davis Cup win was very recent. As for being patriotic well he did turn up & play 3 times in each round! the testing cloud scuppered Mo...lovely Jess came 3rd RE: BBC Sports Personality of the Year - dominar rygel xvi - 21-12-2015 12:46 (21-12-2015 12:31 )Bandwagon Wrote: But I don't like golf so I would never vote for a golfer. But the BBC-types that Shandy was talking of would vote for a golfer. That's the point. Except they didn't because McIlroy's achievements last year were some months before the vote took place and not fresh enough in people's memories. RE: BBC Sports Personality of the Year - Bandwagon - 21-12-2015 12:58 ^ What has Shandy's post got to do with Roger's post? He didn't quote him, you did. Shandy argued that BBC-types would vote for middle/upper class sports and Roger's pointing out that last year they didn't. |
