And Bangladesh are taking on New Zealand from the Oval

South Africa have been beaten by India, a 6 wicket loss and their 3rd defeat. They now need to win probably 5 of their remaining 6 matches in order to qualify for the semi-finals.

Enjoying the World Cup so far, much prefer this format.

Sorry have to disagree with you there! We have witnessed South Africa lose their third match on the spin today, and still not eliminated! It is complete nonsense, and to add to this, Du Plessis said that now SA have to win 5 - at least - of their remaining 6 matches - so effectively calculates that they could maybe lose 4 of 9, and still squeak through. However unlikely, to have even that slim opportunity to progress with another defeat, brings the tournament into disrepute for me!

4 groups of four 16 teams in all. Worked before, and lasted less time.

In 1992, Pakistan won one of their first five matches and went on to win the World Cup, what a story of luck, game management, skill etc.

Totally agree, keeps the tournament 'alive' for longer as teams can lose games but still have a realistic chance to progress, fewer dead rubbers

I remember that! 'cornered tigers' etc. Still don't like the fact they lost 4 from 5 and still came through! Good luck to them, but there should be immediate jeopardy to test preparation, bug match nerves etc

Oh and shocks - perceived or real - should have immediate consequences!

I see your point, but there aren't enough top quality cricket playing nations to make that feasible, unlike football for example where you can easily gather 24, 36 countries

Again not quite true! look back at WC tournaments and you will find a decent number of them! Don't forget Ireland (Pakistan, England etc) I'll venture to suggest there were others, but will need to go back through results to refresh my memory. And I repeat a 16 team tournament was held '07 I think but don't quote me on the year!
