India 192 all out.

England won by 227 runs.

Jack Leach and James Anderson outstanding in the 2nd innings.

I managed to get all my details wrong in this test.

Anderson, I wouldn't have played as he's a seam bowler on the harder pitches of India and Australia don't suit him. And don't forget that I'm his biggest fan.
England's now got a good problem as he now wants to play in the next test.

Leach was a liability in the early part of the India 1st innings.
Pant made him look pants. It looks like the pitch conditions changed and he got into the Indian right handers. But I'd keep him away from their left handed batsmen.

And lastly, my biggest complaint was that Root should have declared twice late in the evening to allow to goes with a the red cherry. Root's explained that he wanted a hard ball at the start of the day and he felt that it was a better option.

However Root and the manager got it right.

Winning the toss is important on this wicket, so lets hope that Root wins the next one.

I'm not even sure that he will score more runs than Bess who has really applied himself with the bat, but we can't carry on with a bowler who is so inconsistent. I actually think that Bess has taken a step back with his bowling performance. Saying all that England like to back their players & with Foakes coming in for the departing Buttler & Broad expected to be rotated back in for Anderson, they wont want more changes. The way Bess has bowled is not even up to a part-time standard, a club cricketer would be embarrassed by all the full-tosses, take him out the firing-line & get him in the nets to sort it out.

Going in the nets isn't going to help him he's bowled like that his whole career , it's why he's not played that much county cricket he was often in the country league getting game time I saw him batting at Bridgwater only a couple of years ago, his batting has always been better than his bowling, what I would say is he's a lucky bowler who can often take a wicket of a rubbish ball,
If I was England management I would be working on his batting most as he could possibly become a number 6 all rounder,

I think if Virdi could bat he would maybe worth a punt, as an out & out off-spinner he looks a better prospect than Bess, but England like their bowlers to be able to bat. I don't really know enough about him, is his fielding up to scratch ? He is highly rated by many & an option, I just wonder about Moeen's confidence, he spins the ball hard & did score a big hundred at the same venue last time round.
To pick Virdi they would maybe have to bolster the batting by bringing in Woakes, at the expense of Archer or even Broad, I dont't really like that idea, we need one out & out quick.

^^ think thats a huge gamble hes only played 28 matches, hes averaging 1 wicket every 28 runs conceded worse than Leach but better than the other 2, but he cant bat at all though a proper old school number 11, not something england like think they would have to drop Anderson to get him in

^^ He more than likely on tour for experience, I did think that he went to the Monty Panesar school of batting. I would imagine that the covid-reserves Crane & Parkinson will at least offer some net practice for our batsmen against leg-spin although Kuldeep is a left-arm wrist spinner, it will at least help a bit if India choose to call on him.
India don't tend to play the same side twice under Kohli, they seem to like tinkering even when they're winning & all fit.

Is there a reason why we don't use Adil Rashid in test cricket.
I'm of the opinion that he's England's best spin bowler, even if he is from Yorkshire.

He's currently unavailable as he manages his recovery from a shoulder injury and doesn't want to bowl long spells.

"I wouldn't want another injury setback with T20 World Cups taking place in India in 2021 and Australia in 2022".

Jofra Archer, is set to miss the 2nd Test in Chennai on Saturday, with an elbow injury. I had imagined that Archer would've been set toplay this match, with the returning Mark Wood being a possible replacement for the 3rd & 4th Test. The only like for like bowler would be Olly Stone, who has played just one Test against Ireland.
