The bears appeared to have seet the red rose quite a formidable run chase, but - in the end - Lancashire cruised it! A great knock from Luke Wells (why not for England to this point??) to set the platform for the victory. However, it is plain to see the ineffective nature of the Bears attack - something the commentary team referred too as well! Wonder if they are missing ammo in the bowling ranks with players missing through injury?? If not, and this is their best attack, problems indeed for them, after being champions too! Really enjoyed the game which - once more - highlighted the worth of the CC. The comms also referred to how unjust is the level of criticism the domestic game gets (countless times this has been highlighted). I will agree once more! I was watching Yorkshire v Surrey today at stunning Scarborough! Really entertaining days cricket, with Yorkshire under the pump at 125 for 5, until Lyth and Tattersall (quite a debut) took over with an unbeaten partnership of 239. Also great to hear Mark Church back on the mic. Haven't heard from him in ages! He is a quality listen, with a lot of knowledge, which he brought to bare again today again when analysing how the Yorkies managed to rescue their innings with a high degree of skill. Rightly saying that the batting side (and the oposition in general) don't get enough credit in such circumstances, with the level of bowling falling under spotlight. Yes, the Surrey attack was indisciplined at times with no-balls etc, but they also bowled well in large part (churchies co - comms seemed to put all the criticism on the bowling), but were seen off by the afore mentioned too. I am a little surprised at just how different a player Lyth looks at county level. For all the world, he looks like he should be a mainstay of any International batting line up, yet it just hasn't happened for him at that level. J Overton was bowling very well at him at times today, yet he seemed so at ease against him. RE: County Championship 2022 - Boomerangutangangbang - 12-07-2022 08:56 ^^ Former Yorkshire captain & coach Andrew Gale made a comment at the time when Root, Ballance, & Barstow were in the Test side, that Lyth Had more natural talent that the others. When he's on there aren't many better, his problem has been too many soft dismissals. Good enough to make a century n his 2nd test against Boult & Southee, But struggled against the Aussies, but who doesn't. Really pleased for Tattersall, he hasn't had it easy, a promising young player, batted at the top of the order for England under-19's. Ge got released by Yorkshire, trialed with Derbyshire, before paying Minor Counties or Lincolnshire. He eventually resigned, & was encouraged to turn to keep wicket. RE: County Championship 2022 - hornball - 14-07-2022 18:42 What a finish to the match at 'Scarbados' Or at least I presume it was, as the stream collapsed with 2.2 overs remaining. High drama and high quality yet again produced at domestic level. As one twitter follower said, far better than the events in the ENG/IND ODI. Everyone keeps referring to how much of an advert for county championship cricket, such a match reflects. Hands off Strauss and Co. I wish, rather than trotting out tired old lines, the county fan (and those at the BBC charged with commentating) would stand up to be counted in a more 'positive' manner. The comms teams around the circuit should be representing those of us who keep them in a job, by making representations about how valuable - and valued - the CC is, to those that are considering driving a coach and horses through it in the on - going review! The county follower/spectator has options too. 45 000 were watching the stream as the match reached a conclusion, with healthy numbers throughout. speaks for itself! RE: County Championship 2022 - Boomerangutangangbang - 14-07-2022 20:13 ^^ All on what is an out-ground, yet one of the best cricket wickets in the country. On a sad note, Scarborough usually is the highest attended fixture in the Championship, I assume that the current financial situation, & still a degree of covid hangover have all contributed. No better place to watch cricket. I was thinking that maybe the crowd (which was high in number however you look at it) - given that the Scarborough ground is relatively small (bigger than some out grounds though for sure) looked to have more numbers than it maybe did if you added up the figures. I sometimes think - in fact I was sure - that the well known first class/test home grounds have as many - if not more - attending, but they get lost in the large capacities available?? Either way, we both know that there are many more attend than is ever reported on! |
