RE: England v New Zealand Test Series 2022 - Boomerangutangangbang - 10-06-2022 09:37 Captain Williamson misses the game with covid, Latham stands in. Nicholls, Bracewell, & Henry come in replacing Williamson, de Grandhomme, & Patel. RE: England v New Zealand Test Series 2022 - Boomerangutangangbang - 11-06-2022 08:43 Despite the green tinge to the wicket, this was a bat first day. Very little movement in the early play, England continued to set attacking fields & lost control, other than when 2 wickets fell in quick succession on 2 occasions. They got the ball to swing in the afternoon, but it didn't help when it landed in somebodies pint. Crawley dived for a slip catch that was heading into Roots hands, & it went down, later the ball went between him & Bairstow, & neither moved. England on the back foot. They couldn’t ask for a better pitch to bat on, get through the first hour in the morning and then go big!! I think I’m more disappointed in our fielding than bowling. You can’t drop good players and not be punished on pitches like this. Also I see Moeen saying he’d like to play under Baz and Stokes. I think he walks back in to be honest! Some similarities between Moeen & Bracewell, on debut, both part timers, Bracewell was a keeper 2 years ago & turned to offspin due to there being so many good keepers. I thought Leach looked like a newbie. The Kiwi's gave Pope & Lees lives yesterday, & more catches went down today. More catches are dropped behind the wicket at Trent Bridge, than at any other Test ground in this country. Lees played well before he played a poor shot, but is progressing. Pope century will give him confidence, & after some dogged innings in recent times, Stokes is being true to himself,& playing his natural game. Root is just a batting god right now. With New Zealand give England a tempting target ? If they want to win this series, they have to go for a win. RE: England v New Zealand Test Series 2022 - Snooks - 12-06-2022 19:56 To my mind fielding is such a hugely important part of the game. Dropping catches has the potential triple whammy effect. 1. Gives the batter another life and more confidence 2. Psychologically and physically tough for the bowler knowing the wicket has to be taken again creating more work 3. The cost of runs scored by the batter after the drop Taking opportunities or not in the field can often be pivotal in all forms of the game. RE: England v New Zealand Test Series 2022 - Whynot - 12-06-2022 21:54 Happy for Pope! Lees will get more chances and Root can win me £20 from my mate if he gets to 200. The pitch does seem to be turning so pressure on Leach to have an impact. I hated the way Stokes got out! I know he is trying to set an example by being aggressive but this was dumb aggression not smart aggression! He’s too good to be slogging every ball! He got let off earlier in the over playing an identical shot, then played a beauty straight. I just think he needs to calm down slightly and show some shot selection.
