As someone who has never seen a single episode of GoT can someone tell me why there is such uproar over this last series?

Character and story arcs thats they have been building for 8 season have just been kinda forgotten and random stuff has just happened with no build up or payoff pretty much everything they have done is worse than any fan theory out there
Season 8 will go down as rushed, disappointing and flat out stupid but it all looks really nice thats my only positive it looks nice laugh

^ Exactly. The author expected it to run 10-12 seasons, HBO were ready to fund the show for however long it took, but the show runners (who are the only ones getting any flak, and rightfully so) decided to bin it off quickly so they can fuck off to Disney to make Star Wars.

George RR Martin hasn't finished the books, so after season 4/5 the show writers were working from what he intended, rather than source material, but, they also created some stuff that doesn't exist in the books (the Night King in show form, for example) and started to ignore important elements (prophecies and magic), in order to make it fit what they wanted it to be. The show ending is supposed to be the same as the book ending for the main characters, but secondary characters have had some of their roles changed (some died early, some survived longer), and getting from A to B has been a much shorter journey than it should have been.

The cast and crew can be proud of their work, they have been outstanding, writers (other than the show runners) have also been pretty good too.
With the previous success of other projects and the achievements of GoT, the guys in charge could have had this as their legacy show, something always remembered fondly, but, given what's happened so far this season, and the likelihood of the final episode being what the spoilers have predicted, I think it will follow them as a what it could have been, if finished right. Only those not really invested will be happy. 10 years, 8 seasons (20 years for the poor sods who've read the books) and it ends tonight/tomorrow. I still hope for a surprise and that the leaks are wrong, but I also accept that it's likely gonna end with a whimper, being put out of its misery.

Sad

A bit of fantasy that, the only reason the spoilers have been posted everywhere is because of subverted expectations. lol.
