I'd say he's just as dodgy a a bent 25 cent piece. If he goes down I don't think he'll enjoy prison food much either. I bet he demands McDonalds every day. I would agree, any fine would be peanuts to him and I hope if they do fine him I hope it ends up being that makes some kind of dent in his cash stash.

I wonder if they'll attempt to build his famed wall round his prison cell?

I assume the authorities will now file (whatever it is they have to file - forgot the term for it -) to have his asssets frozen.

I asuume the the jury who convicted him will likely have to face a rough time for doing so tf their identities were ever revealed.

But surely now the political system need to recognise the fact he has a conviction and surely that has to make him ineligible to run for office.

1 down one to go - Will our legal system be brave enough to move against Boris?

I hope White House tells the Kremlin to "Butt out of our legal and political affairs"

If he does go down will Putin try and spring him from Prison?

Did anyone see the interview Sarah Palin's interview on GMB? I wonder who she is Nailing now???? Wasn't she in the frame for VP once? I can't see how she can describe his conviction as "Atrocious" I think while there are many who will think he hasn't done anything wrong, I'm sure there are many whio believe he
has got away for it far too long and finally justice has caught up with him - and it has. I hope the sentencing is harsh enough to make him take a long hard look at himself. But overall I think it's not a good look for the US to allow a man with a conviction to run for the highest office in US politics.

Lots of hot air blowing from both sides on this at the moment.

I can’t imagine there is a chance in hell that Trump is jailed for a first-offence bookkeeping crime.

Politically, it will energise the Left and galvanise the Right, but those votes are already in the bank anyway. The question is: what will this do to undecided voters in the middle? Pre-trial polling suggested a 2%-3% shift from Trump to Biden, which may or may not be enough to make the difference.

But memories and attention spans are short and November is a long way away. I’m sure we’ll hyperventilating about something else by then.

(The Right is excellent at capitalising on these things. Remember Hilary’s emails? O my God, the emails!!! Where are the emails!? … They chanted that all the way to the podium. But the Left is hopeless at sloganeering and it’s embarrassing when they try.)

The only significance of this conviction, IMO, is the fantastic irony that Trump can run for president — he can even win — but he can’t vote for himself.

Yikes!

Awful debate performance by Joe Biden. Harder to watch than England v Denmark.

I think I said after his election that he should be an intentionally one-term president. Man, I wish more senior democrats read this forum!

At the election debate from York this week, a member of the audience said "Are you really the best we've got".
Well it could be worse, ask the Americans. It's either a felon or someone who's obviously infirm.

How has America got no-one else to put forward?!

RE: US Election & Presidency - Goodfella3041 - 28-06-2024 09:06

Bright side (and you have to squint to see it)…

…maybe this will be the reality check that Joe and Jill Biden need to call it a day.

They’ve got up until the convention to find someone else.

RE: US Election & Presidency - southsidestu - 28-06-2024 10:55

Problem is that replacing him at the convention is not straight forward, its likely to be a contested event with progressives causing havoc over issues like the war in gaza and even if they were able to get it over with relatively smoothly there are major logistical problems going forward.

The convention is in August & early voting starts in September plus fundraising which is such a massive part of US elections.

This article from Forbes explains what would happen to a candidates campaign money if they were to drop out
