I think it was because it was potentially dangerous but in any case it's seemingly against the rules hence the penalty. Not sure why he was not forced to change the rogue tyre though

In the Italian GP Hamilton is on pole followed by 2 Ferrari's

Hamilton wins the Italian GP. Vettel was runner up followed by Massa.

Mercedes have been asked to explain why Hamilton's car had the incorrect pressure in his tyres. Hamilton could be disqualified or have a time penalty.

Bet they Disqualify them so Ferrari win if it wasnt the Italiian GP they would give a time penalty

Having read the steward's judgement there was no case to answer.

The tyres were above minimum pressure when fitted to the car and this was confirmed by Pirelli.. When they were checked on the grid it was noticed that Mercedes had unplugged the tyre Warmers which had been run at a lower temperature then the other team that was tested (Ferrari). The Mercedes pressures would obviously have been lower in that case.

alan mcnish said that when the covers come off the pressure drops than when the cars get going for the warm up lap and the first couple of laps of the race the tyres return the pressure when in the pit. if the pressure was below the minimum on all tyres when he finished the race then that is a different matter which the team should be punished not the driver for example a points deduction in the constructors championship, it is always the driver that gets punished for something he has no control over.

Red Bull have split with engine suppliers Renault.
They have also stated that they will pull out of F1 if they don't get a competitive engine for next session
