I get it, the character is/was a sex pest, even as a kid I thought he was a creep. I think what needs to happen is straightforward, if something is no longer suitable for the age group it was initially created for (for whatever reason), don't include it in that age groups programming, but it doesn't mean that the old cartoons/shows should never be shown again, or be available to buy, stick a disclaimer on it and move on. It's like some of our classic comedy shows, OFAH for example, every now and again they stick a ''this programme contains outdated language'' message at the start, the message doesn't hurt anyone, but at least lets people know that something might be offensive by modern standards. It's simple imo, if you then watch it and are offended, that's your problem, nobody else's.

Common sense should overrule the cancel everything brigade. Like with the royal family, somebody (who was unnamed) said something that was perceived as racist by Harry, who relayed that to Meghan, who relayed that to Oprah, but without any context. Was the person asking (in the wrong way) out of concern knowing how the press would treat Meghan and any child of theirs, or was it asked because the person has a history of being racist, context. At least we know Liz and Big Phil weren't involved (Phew for Big Phil, lol), we don't know if it was a blood relative, somebody that married in, a cousin, an old fart who is out of touch with modern thinking, so. Oh and Harry was caught being racist regarding a soldier, referred to people in the Middle East in a certain way and wore a Nazi uniform, yes Meghan, your Harry messed up a few times and had to apologise.
I do believe the mental health stuff (our press can be cunts), but she should have looked into what dating a royal entailed at least, rather than thinking it was going to be some sort of fairytale. If Harry didn't bother to share any info on what to expect, protocol etc, then that's his fault, not anyone else's. The passport thing seems very sketchy, it came across like she was being 'kept', I call bullshit on that. Oh and only those in line have additional security, google has that info for everyone to see, fucking Americans Rolleyes

Anyway, the Royal Family are still a family, many families have at least one dodgy bastard, racist or cunt in them, that's life, have people forgot how bad her family are though, her mum is the only one that seems normal. Her dad's family/her step family are a mess.

Just my opinion of course.

Yes, I'd agree we need to see some context before passing any sort of judgement on the racism allegations.
There was a very down to earth old dear on a radio phone-in the other day, with mixed race grandchildren, who said she'd asked the same question.
The mildly shocked presenter asked her why.

"Because I wanted to know what sort of clothes to buy. I think a black baby dressed in white would look as daft as a white baby dressed in black".

An innocent man being murdered by a cop in a racist system vs a potentially racist question being asked to Harry in an antiquated system. That's not really the same thing and it isn't exactly satire to depict it like it is. Should've used Charles, not the Queen though Rolleyes

Oprah teed Meghan up to make race the focus, and so everyone not involved in these ''conversations'' is now being tarred as a racist and that's just cruel. It's like going after an entire family if one member commits a crime, only those party to it are guilty by association, everyone else should be left out of it. Even if the question/conversations about race were actually loaded with racism, that still doesn't excuse damaging an entire family publicly, name and shame if you go public or stfu. Burning bridges is never a good idea and the short term boost in income won't be worth the long term family problems. They're now supposedly worth £100m, so at least they can be independent Rolleyes

I'm no royalist, but I have a real problem with how this has been handled, family is important.

If Harry and Megan wanted to bring down the monarcy then they are doing a good job.

RE: General News Thread - Tumble_Drier - 13-03-2021 22:04

^I suspect it'll take more than Ginge & Whinge to achieve that.
