I mean we are still gonna see the same girls right as sky? Not everybody has Sky, so going on freeview should open up a massive new audience. By going IPTV though, they seriously limit that audience, so it remains to be seen how successful this is. RE: News on new channels - Freeview & Sky - HoneyRocks - 13-01-2013 22:13 I guess it's trying new technology to do something in a cheaper way. Problem is like with DAB Digital Radio those in charge of the technology have rushed out receivers that are unadaptable to changes and ongoing improvision of existing technology. DAB Radio was launched in the late 90's using then already antiquated MP2 technology when even back then they could have gone with much superior MP3/MP4 AAC+ technology. Most Dab radios in the Market place cannot be upgraded! Similar with most Freeview receivers. Don't knock the technology, just the idiots in charge of implementing it! I fancied the Youview service, especially as their tv ads finish with the words "for everyone". Turns out that's a bit of a porky. I went onto their site and the first thing they require is that you run a speed test. Mine failed the required standard despite being above the Government's desired minimum. It would be nice if they actually stated the minimum qualifying speed - it would have saved me the trouble of running the test. If I switched to BT or TalkTalk my maximum download speed would stay the same. I had some problems a few months ago and BT thoroughly overhauled my connection so that I'm getting the absolute maximum they can provide. Still no good for Youview. I have the Humax HDR Fox T2 and that doesn't receive the IPTV channels. Below is a list of devices compatible with the Vision TV network streams. Vision is the main provider of Freeview IPTV, along with Connect TV (recently acquired by Arqiva) so I think the list will apply to the Connect service as well. BB will be using Connect I should think. http://www.visiontvnetwork.co.uk/clients/vtv/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=103 NB the Digital Stream PVR can also receive IPTV. YouView devices can as well but the service is currently locked down to the main on-demand catch up channels. I think the plan is to open up YouView to third party IPTV services at a later date. This is born out by some user comments on Amazon. RE: News on new channels - Freeview & Sky - Kevin555 - 14-01-2013 17:31 Hi, Visited Maplins today and they have a streamer for £110 but I feel that is two much and have no wish to go to Freesat so will continue as normal However is there any news on the pld Playboy channel has someone taken it over ? |
