This comment about the interplanetary world cup has overshadowed something else Blatter said during that speech - he wants a TV review system to be introduced, so that teams can ask for an immediate review of a referee's decision if they think he got it wrong. Blatter said challenges should be limited to 2 per match. This would be a dramatic change for football, especially as Blatter himself has been against technology in the past, and it got largely lost with his interplanetary remark.

Can you imagine the chaos if Russia said they could only hold the world cup in the middle of winter as the summer is too hot to play football?

Yet you should remember how long it took Blatter to realise that goal line technology was needed!! This TV review decision idea is one I don't advocate well as I believe it will put more pressure on referees to get every decision right It works well in cricket and tennis, but I don't think football is one sport where it would work successfully.
What I would be more in favour of would be referees being allowed to explain their decisions to the media after a game. 606 (on 5Live) have long wanted this to happen and I think it's the best way forward rather than the review system. The referee have enough to cope with as it is and it is their decisions that spark the debates we have as fans and
on 606. it would be great if we had referees saying after a game 'I made that decision because....'
This is my view and I know some of you will disagree with me and that's fine.

It would be likely that some of the games at Russia 2018 will be played in Siberia.

No, there would be less pressure on referees, because any major mistake they make could be corrected by the TV referee.
