190 - 6 is certainly the start England wanted. Let's hope when we bat our batsmen don't throw away their wickets as cheaply to dismantle this wonderful start

273 - 8 wow we have to keep them under 300 - 350 if we can

Definitely under 300 for me and the Aussies are still in this game. Lets hope our batman, who definitely have the talent, can perform and give England a big lead. We could not have asked for more after losing the toss but still a lot of cricket to be played yet.

England better team on 1st day. need to get Australia out for 300-350 and then bat well

Swann could've bowled a little more defensive against Johnson & Haddin if you want to be hyper-critical.

^ May be but given the Aussie's like to score fast and were always going to target Swanny I think an economy rate of a shade over 3 an over is acceptable, especially on a pitch that was offering him no real assistance. It kept it fairly tight and allowed the seemers to do the business.

With the Aussie papers refusing to mention Broad's name, they're going to struggle to find something to write about today, aren't they.

Shaping up nicely - hope the rain doesn't get in the way.

Mitchell Johnson claimed in an interview that Australia had a par total. I don't see it that way myself. I agree with what cosmonaut posted above, they need 400 on this wicket, so 273/8 looks well below par. I guess only time will tell and we'll have to see how England cope with the bounce of this wicket.

Round 1 to England, though we need to finish them off in the first hour tomorrow.
