Its been confirmed that the Cybermen will return in the new series so just hoping they will do a decent story. Have high hopes of this new Doctor, just hoping he isn't let down by the pc brigade production team. A darker, more menacing Doctor would be a revelation.

RE: Dr Who - Regenerated - 06-07-2014 12:25

I too am looking for a new approach this time. We need more interesting stories and the way I feel that can be done is with a darker personality to the Doctor. I mean after all the wars and trauma he's been through he should have a darker character by now. Having said that there still needs to be a balance between over the top evil and insanely innocent childlike.

The enemies need to be dangerous above all. There has to be a threat. I don't want to see the childish and frankly stupid shit we saw last time (a red fucking lobster under a woman's dress and dancing Cybermen FFS annoyed ). If its done right there can still be a threat while still being entertaining. Also, last time there was far too much stuff crammed in to some of the stories which made it far too complicated and gave it a rushed feel at times.

So Moffat has a lot of glitches to iron out - if he can, Who can be great again. I'm hoping anyway. Smile

There seems to be a decidedly darker tone to the teasers. I really hope that this is borne out in Series 8. As someone who remembers the early Tom Baker stories and loves Hammer Horror, i've got my fingers crossed.

just to throw it out there are there any monsters from the past that you feel are now worthy of a comeback guys? it was nice to see the ice warrior make a return but i'm thinking it would be nice to see the sea devils back and may the spiders or possibly even a new giant robot!!

RE: Dr Who - bytor - 06-07-2014 21:13

Yes the Sea devils would be great but please not like they did with the Silurians. It seems with Moffat and his gang that the villains can no longer be terrifying and evil. He feels the need to portray the poor little souls as misunderstood creatures Rolleyes
I really can't forgive the dancing cybermen and worst of all a Sontaran, supposedly bred for no other purpose other than to fight, acting as a butler for comedic effect.
The Ice Warriors would be good as would Daleks and Cybermen but only if they receive the right treatment. Fingers crossed!

Apparently some of the scripts have been upload on to the internet by an unscrupulous individual. This is not the first time this has occurred I understand.

The first episode is also available, in a raw "untreated" form (i.e. before the music kills it)

Also apparently going to be a proper one-minute trailer tonight, probably sometime during the World Cup show.

^^^^^ These classic stories have been getting re-run on Horror Channel every weekday over the last couple of months, as well as Pertwee stories. Last one I caught last week was "Genesis of Daleks" with first appearance of Davros. Possibly over-repeated that particular story, but other less-repeated ones like "Deadly Assassin" etc have also been getting shown..in the original 25 minute episodes complete with title sequence, cliffhangers etc, 2 episodes a day.
