RE: Politics - The Non-Brexit Thread. - southsidestu - 16-01-2026 10:52 Reform two biggest lines of argument are Immigration and the Culture wars: wokism, censorship etc, they were the most ardent critics of The Online Safety Bill Yet in Nadine Dorries & Jenrick they brought in the Sec of State during the crafting of Online Safety Bill & The Tories immigration minister when net migration was at its highest. Jenrick might argue that it was policies put in by the Sunak government that are largely responsible for the dip we are seeing now under Labour and he's probably right but surely Farage, who is whatever you think of him, the country's current most successful political operator, would recognise how bad the perception is around that. RE: Politics - The Non-Brexit Thread. - Charlemagne - 22-01-2026 13:12 Andrew Gwynne is supposed to stand down as a MP in a Manchester seat. It's a chance for Andy Burham to return to the House of Commons and could be a viable challenger to Starmer. RE: Politics - The Non-Brexit Thread. - Charlemagne - 24-01-2026 20:04 Andy Burnham has announced that he intends to stand in the Gorton and Denton by-election. He's applied today to the Labour’s National Executive Committee (NEC) for permission to seek selection. RE: Politics - The Non-Brexit Thread. - Tumble_Drier - 24-01-2026 20:14 ^If he manages to get elected and oust Starmer, I'm looking forward to the condemnation from everyone who whined about "unelected" Conservative PMs every time their revolving door gave us a new one.
RE: Politics - The Non-Brexit Thread. - Charlemagne - 25-01-2026 09:25 He's seen to be the man of the people to take on the reforms man of the people. But Burnham may not be allowed to be selected, as the committee consists of Starmer's closest cronies. RE: Politics - The Non-Brexit Thread. - HannahsPet - 25-01-2026 09:35 will be worse for starmer if he doesnt let him stand will lead to civil war in the party be interesting what excuse they would use not to let him stand i mean ex minister and nearly became leader would have been if Numbnuts Milliband had not opened up the election process so momentum could vote Corbyn in good chance he would have been PM in 2015 prob no brexit and no boris and the shit show that would have followed loved the comments on his post about wanting to stand some numbnuts said as a manchestrian he is useless christ can see russian bots a mile off
