In all seriousness, I agree with others that it is a harsh sacking and fairly pointless. I think even before their run of 4 losses on the trot most people expected them to go down. Who do the Reading owners expect to get at this stage of the season? Who would be available that has experience of getting clubs out of situations like this and will the players respond to his style of management of how he plays football?
Reading are struggling not because McDermott can't cope at this level, but because he just doesn't have the quality in the squad to keep them up. The Reading owners should have stuck it out till the end of the season even if they got relegated and see if McDermott was the right man for the long term future of the club. Unfortunately some football owners don't understand this way of thinking and have the patience of a 10 year old.
Adkins is a good shout for the job, but would Adkins really want to work with that Reading owner, who may treat him the same way as the Southampton owner.

Re- Reading-Nigel Adkins .
Isn't he still officially on "gardening leave"from Southampton and can't take another job until his contract is settled ?
