Its down on my sky planner to start at 3am...given that the clocks go forward at 1am i would guess the time wouldnt be affected...dont quote me on that though RE: UFC - groundnpound - 26-03-2011 12:14 Thanks mate. It's advertised as 3am so i'll trust the guide RE: UFC - groundnpound - 26-03-2011 12:23 Gonna have a bet on Dan Hardy later he's 5/4 to win.Think he's a cert tonight! Can't believe Johnson's odds on to beat him @ 4/7. Can see Hardy knocking him out. Gonna go for Hardy to win by KO @ 4/1. RE: UFC - mitchell - 27-03-2011 14:00 (26-03-2011 20:30 )mitchell Wrote: John Hathaway v Kris McCray - Hathaway Submission John Hathaway v Kris McCray This was a good fight to bounce back with after his first loss & it was a good accomplished performance to go with it. I've said before that I though Ross Pearson will be the one to watch as far as UK fighters go but I have to say I may have got this one wrong as Hathaway has a very good ground game interms of defence & the one that most UK fighters struggle with, attack, he's also very good in the clinch & if he can improve his striking he will no doubt be a title contender within the next 12 to 18 month. Leonard Garcia v Chan Sung Jung The UFC would be forgiven for starting every card with a fight between these two as I doubt anyone would complain. It looked like it wasn't gonna be a like for like rematch with Garcia starting with a technical strategy & Sung Jung looking to find his feet, but come the second round it was straight back to the style of business these two like to do & this time round it was Sung Jung who always looked the more likely winner as Garcia started to look tired & unable to stay in the fight & with 1 second left in the second round 'The Korean Zombie' locked on to a 'Twister', a submission that I personally have never seen & neither has a UFC crowd as this was the first time it has been applied in a UFC fight, but I somehow think it won't be the last. Amir Sadollah v DaMarques Johnson This was a pretty good fight to start off with, with Sadollah looking to use his crisp Muay Thai & Johnson knowing he was the better ground fighter, It looked like going to a split decision but DeMarques Johnson's fitness was key come the second round in a physical fight which he took on just 2 weeks notice & once Sadallah had him on the back foot it was just a matter of time before the ref stepped in. Sadallah has been on a good run since his TUF win & will now be looking to climb up the ladder interms of opponents to improve on his 5-2 record. Dan Hardy v Anthony Johnson Well what can I say other than I'm massively disappointed with this fight as yet again a fighter has walked into a Mixed Martial Arts Octagon & chose to wrestle for the whole of the 15 minute fight, but more so with the fighter being Anthony 'Rumble' Johnson a fighter with 6 of his 9 wins comming by KO, this has been the story for the past 12 to 18 months with the Ultimate Fighting Championship becoming the Ultimate Wrestling Championship. That said Johnson used the tactics which he thought would win him the fight against a dangerous striker who talking of which Dan Hardy has been saying since the loss to GSP he has been working on his ground game but he once again was so easy to takedown that Anthony Johnson could've set his Grandad to do the job for him, but more to the point Hardy still didn't show any attack when he was on his back, this seriously annoys me when I see fighters on their back with their opponent on top but not doing anything with regards to a submission attempt but the fighter on the bottom still refuses to throw elbows down onto the top of the head & try to open up a cut & also score some points just like John Hathaway did in his fight earlier on the same card. Dan Hardy has now lost his last 3 fights & he also fought for the title way before he should've & I personally think it is this reason why he won't be religated to the Strikeforce cards which I think he would've been if his loss to GSP wasn't a title fight, he now badly needs to win his next fight but I also think his next fight will be against a top level opponent, maybe Carlos Condit as I don't see Condit fighting Chris Lytle who he should've faced in Australia but had to withrdraw due to injury & with the nature of the loss to Condit I can see Hardy asking for & getting a rematch with the fighter who's a kickboxer & Brazilian ju jitsu fighter, Oh & fights out of Jackson's Submission Fighting camp, for me Dan Hardy is probably just another Michael Bisping. Antônio Rogério Nogueira v Phil Davis This fight annoyed me just as much as the last with a stand up fighter trying to stop the takedowns of a wrestler untill the obvious happened then it was a matter of watching a wrestling match while the tv guide tried to convince me I was watching Mixed Martial Arts!!! Not a great night on the betting fornt... Only joking chaps I had a last minute bet (£250) on John Hathaway to win at 1/4 = £62.5 - the £9.10 I lost = £53.40 Grandad Johnson can try & wrestle this away from me if he likes but he should be warned my elbows are pretty sharp!!! RE: UFC - groundnpound - 27-03-2011 14:09 What about last night lads?Jeez... That's 3 defeats on the bounce now for Dan Hardy.Johnson looked like a Light Heavyweight against him.He basically pinned the lad to the floor for 3 rounds. He's seen what GSP did to Hardy and said that'll do for me onwards and upwards The last time we seen any sort of action from Hardy was when he beat Mike Swick to earn a crack at GSP.Since then he's been controlled twice and KO'd.He must gutted. He let my Hathaway,Hardy,Davis treble down aswell Not sure where he goes from here but i hope the lad doesn't get axed and rises from the ashes to win the welterweight title as he's one of my favourite fighters. It seems a million miles away but the lads got unbelievable heart and never gives in.I'll keep the fingers crossed. This was Dana Whites response when asked if Hardy would be cut after 3 straight defeats. "Not necessarily,We'll have to wait and see. I f****n love that kid." Crazy Twister submission from Chan Sung Jung to defeat Leonard Garcia in their rematch. It was never gonna be as good as the first fight but at least the Korean gave us a memorable finish. Was quite impressed by the way Nogueira stuffed Phil Davies attempts to take him down in the 1st round and a half of their fight and he looked dangerous with his strikes but Davies soon sussed it and went for the single leg takedowns and the fight was over. Forgot how many adverts there were during the Fight Night shows on ESPN.So many!! lol You don't see the ring walks either until the Main Event which kinda takes away from the build up for me. Was a bit disappointed with the show to be honest.Don't usually have a moan about a poor show but it was a bit of a let down for me. RE: UFC - Gaz "AV1" Aston - 27-03-2011 14:13 Yeah i was disappointed with the card (Especially Hardy) and i do feel a lot of the wrestling aspect is taking away from the entertainment value...What can you do though?...Most British or western European fighters will have this problem against American fighters as with last nights fight it was almost certainly going to be the tactic...especially seeing how Hardy had faired against GSP in their title fight! The only real entertainment i have had watching a pure wrestling match was when GSP beat Koscheck.. a) because Koscheck was supposed to be favourite had it gone to the ground & b) because Koscheck is a C*NT RE: UFC - mitchell - 27-03-2011 14:18 (27-03-2011 14:09 )groundnpound Wrote: Forgot how many adverts there were during the Fight Night shows on ESPN.So many!! lol You don't see the ring walks either until the Main Event which kinda takes away from the build up for me. Yeah I forgot to mention this, fuck me right off when ESPN do this, I think they are in competition with the UFC to see who can show the most ads in a single show, I don't know if Anthony Johnson even got interviewwd as they went straight to an ad break but given how shit the fight was I doubt he got to meet Joe Rogan anyways!!! |
