RE: Top Gear - lovebabes56 - 29-05-2016 21:17 Waas it blokey enough? RE: Top Gear - ShandyHand - 30-05-2016 02:25 ^ I agree with a lot of what has been said already. I'd only add that Evans seemed to think that shouting made up for some audience under-reaction. It was so evident that he felt the need to try and lift it at points in the studio. These were by far the weakest segments with the already strained 'star in a reasonably price car' botched in it's miss judged extension. Le Blanc was far more natural on his own than in the somewhat forced banter with Evans. The foreign shot stuff still looks impressive and was the highlight for me. Overall at its best when doing the proper car-y stuff and not trying to recreate the Clarkson era gimmicks and humour. Needs to find some jokey elements of its own to make that mark. First ratings are out tomorrow. They will suffer when it's up against Euros games in a couple of weeks. Here's the BBC's selection of the critics' comments: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36409943 *** EDITED TO REMOVE FULL STOP AFTER LINK TO MAKE IT WORK *** (I should have remembered this formating hates that!) RE: Top Gear - lovebabes56 - 30-05-2016 05:09 Link doesn't work - error 404 , perhaps the critic's comments were so bad, the BBC felt they had to remove them!! Which to me suggests that they felt the same as we did, they found it embarrassing to watch!! RE: Top Gear - HannahsPet - 30-05-2016 06:58 so BBC Breakfast found the only 2 critics who liked one was a women all she did was mention how good Matt la blanc was says it all really RE: Top Gear - Rammyrascal - 30-05-2016 07:13 I'm going to be in the minority with what I'm about to say. I actually quite enjoyed it overall. Not as good as Clarkson era, but not as bad as some have said it was RE: Top Gear - HannahsPet - 30-05-2016 07:27 Well thats hardley surprising you always like everything RE: Top Gear - Rammyrascal - 30-05-2016 07:41 ^^ Point taken RE: Top Gear - ShandyHand - 30-05-2016 10:28 I think we can colour Evans officially "disappointed": http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36411819 I suppose it might just scrape the 5mil when catch-up viewers are added. Hardly stellar numbers though for a major re-launch with all the swathes of publicity it's garnered. RE: Top Gear - ILoveTheChatGirls - 30-05-2016 10:43 Chris Evans has only one style of presenting and that's getting over excited and shouting. Matt Le Blanc was great, if a little bit scripted, and we need to see more of Sabine Schmitz who is an amazing driver. I'd love to see her against The Stig on the track. I thought it would a new version but instead it's the same format with different presenters. It was all short segments and felt a bit rushed. |
