The film in the cut which features Meg Ryan, the penis is not a real one but prosthetic one. Watched any Tinto Brass films b4? They all feature prosthetic penises.

Betty Blue, Ai no korîda (In The Realm of the Senses) and The Beast are classics well overdue for television screenings. It is sooo important to understand other cultures. Why not if Women In Love featuring a well respected Labour MP and An American Werewolf In London can be shown?
Perhaps Melvyn Bragg could be persuaded to introduce a season of Tinto Brass films. It would be cultural and accessible to women.
The new BBC Director General was head of the Royal Opera. He might have an understanding that in most countries, even the USA and Russia, modern Arts often feature singers and dancers with their kit off. Many interpretations of Wagner do. It's just the UK that insists on anyone Arty dressing up like a Victorian at a special occasion every time.
By the way, did anyone see The Intern on Channel 4 Thursday at 9pm featuring Hilary Devey (better known from Dragons Den). "Hilary Devey sends three budding reporters to work at a national newspaper, giving them one week to prove they have the abilities to succeed in such a hugely competitive industry." Another write up referred to a "dream job". The paper in question was the Sunday Sport. I can only guess what sort of stories they had to cover.

Back in the 90s I dated someone who developed an ovarian cyst that twisted and became gangrenous. If I'd seen a program graphically showing what that meant, maybe I wouldn't have delayed getting help. When the thing hit its acute phase one evening, what she actually needed was an ambulance to take her to hospital with all possible speed, but in my ignorance I held off until later the next day. By some miracle she survived, had an emergency operation and is still with us (I still have the odd nightmare about her not getting treatment quickly enough. I'm awfully glad that an actual tragedy doesn't hound my conscience, only an imagined what-might-have-been). Anatomically explicit educational programs (even if sensationalist) are absolutely fine in my book. I don't think they should be denigrated, just to make a point.
