RE: UFC - mitchell - 12-04-2011 01:01

The Glasgow event used to be one of the TBA dates but it's since been removed, I was pretty shocked/pissed to see no UK dates on the list but this doesn't mean there aren't be any it's just a case of getting a venue with 12,000+ seats & with all the music concerts & shit it won't be easy.

Also only one UK fighter as yet confirmed Miguel Torres (39-3 former WEC Bantamweight champion) v Brad Pickett (20-5 former Cage Rage British Featherweight Champion.) at UFC 130 in May this looks a good fight I've only seen Torres once & never seen Pickett so as with most of the new divisions I'm looking forward to the new skills of the little & faster fighters, Wanderlei Silva v Chris Leben I may aswell say it now "Possible fight of the year" (If they fight as expected), Carlos Condit v Dong Hyun Kim this could be quality, I can't wait to see José Aldo for the first time aswell.

I forgot to ask gazfc what event you going to & how much did the cageside tickets rob you for, if you don't mind me asking???

RE: UFC - gazfc - 12-04-2011 11:21

Tickets was £40 for a 10th legion event, 14 fights in total, was a pretty decent event really(I've paid more to watch football so can't complain) was a bit strange at first as a few fights had no striking to the head. Also a little frustrating at times, you could see some had talent but didn't know how to utlize it to full effect.

There's another one in September so I think I'll be going again but this time not ringside, the arena isn't big enough to warrant it, plus the crowd in the cheap seats was a lively bunch.

Taken from the daily star so best 2 take with a pinch of salt

Quote:Michael Bisping, Britain’s leading UFC star, looks set to be handed an elimination fight with American Chael Sonnen, with the winner guaranteed a crack at Silva later in the year.

It’s a dramatic change of fortune for Bisping, who five weeks ago was facing a potential suspension after spitting on beaten opponent Jorge Rivera’s corner man at UFC 127.

A furious Bisping let his temper boil over after knocking Rivera out, spitting in the direction of the coaching staff.

In the fight build-up, Team Rivera had mocked his English accent, British history and insinuated his girlfriend – the mother of his three children – had a sexually transmitted disease.

Bisping said: “I apologised for losing my temper.

“It was very unprofessional and I let myself, my country and the UFC down by blowing up like I did.

“But I have apologised for five weeks now and people can either accept my apology or not.

“I don’t think there’s a red-blooded male out there who wouldn’t lose his temper under that provocation.

“They were making obscene comments about the mother of my children and it got to me. I let myself down, but it’s time to move on.”

As punishment for his antics, Bisping did not receive his usual six-figure cash bonus from UFC president Dana White.

However, White now clearly feels the Brit has served his time.

And he is ready to reward Bisping’s run of form with a showdown with All-American wrestler Sonnen, who was just a minute away from beating Silva for the belt last summer.

Bisping said: “Sonnen is the fight I want. I haven’t been approached with a contract, but the UFC have spoken with my management about it.

“Sonnen is the best available opponent, a world-class fighter, and this is the final fight for me to earn a world title shot.”

Silva is pencilled in to fight current top contender Yushin Okami in Brazil in August and, assuming he avenges an earlier disqualification loss to the Japanese fighter, should be free to face the Bisping v Sonnen winner around Christmas time.

Bisping said: “Sonnen is the fight I want. Okami’s the No.1 contender and up next for the title shot. Sonnen is the No.2 guy, so he’s the one I want.

“I am prepared to go to America and fight him in his own backyard.

“I’ll take the fight to him. I am ready to earn my chance to become the first Brit ever to win a UFC world title.”

Bisping fought Dan Henderson in a No.1 contenders fight at UFC 100 in 2009, losing in two rounds.

He said: “If I am honest, I wasn’t ready for that level two years ago.

“But, now, with the improvements I have made, I truly believe it. I am bringing that gold back to the UK.”

In other British MMA news, Nottingham puncher Paul Daley lost a wild one-round brawl with top American Nick Diaz in San Diego, California, on Saturday.

‘Semtex’ decked Diaz with a left hook and almost had him out, but the Californian halted Daley with seconds to go in the opening round.

MMA fans can watch The Ultimate Fighter: Lesnar v Dos Santos on Thursday at 10.30pm on ESPN.

Poor news on the Glasgow event Mitchell. They've even got an event in Sweden up on there now.Thought the Scottish event was a stick on.Think white said that Scotland was a priority venue for a UFC event after so many scots turned up at UFC 120 in London.

Bisping will fight Sonnen at some point i'm pretty sure Gaz.Hope he knocks him out lol

Sonnen will just take him down and sit on him for the duration..maybe win by GnP..Cant see that going any other way bladewave

RE: UFC - mitchell - 12-04-2011 21:35

When the Glasgow event was talked about there was one of the big name UK fighters on the card but like I said with so many music concerts going on now it's hard to find a venue, since the download shit came in music artists are losing shit loads of money so they supplement this by going on the road for long periods thus booking up all the venues.

Sonnen v Bisping has been on the cards since Sonnen started asking for the fight, to be honest I don't see Bisping beating him but I also don't think Sonnen is that great either.

"Was a bit strange at first as a few fights had no striking to the head" this is from their site.

Semi Pro and Amateur Fights are so far not fully agreed from show to show, so the simple additions are listed
Pro B - No elbows allowed
Semi Pro - No strikes to the head on the ground
Every round is 3 minutes in duration with a one minute rest period in-between rounds.
AMATEUR FIGHTS
In addition - No head strikes allowed at all. No twisting Neck or Spine locks
No Heal Hooks
Two 3 minute rounds with one 3 minute overtime round if a draw from the first two rounds.

I'm sure the vid is all the best bits rolled into one but still it looks like a good night. There's a pretty sweet sub at 1:20 of the vid & the dude with the Vitor Belfort style shorts & kick KO looked quality. Oh & I'm liking ring girl Brandy Brewer she sounds naughtyWink
