RE: Currently reading forum game - greenray - 08-01-2017 19:52 Amazing Grace The Man who was W.G. by Richard Tomlinson. Not a massive book(360 pages) on cricketer W G Grace but as well as his cricket career it covers his family life, his financial dealings(generally earning more through expenses than professional cricketers earnt). It also takes a look at the many Victorian entrepreneurs, some organising cricket tours, probably more failures and bankruptcies than successes! RE: Currently reading forum game - rpj316 - 16-01-2017 14:13 Wild Blue by Stephen E.Ambrose Focusing on 741st Bomb Squadron, in particular the crew that made up the Dakota Queen,a B-24 Bomber that managed to successfully complete all its missions and not end up as one of the other 50% that suffered casualties during the conflict RE: Currently reading forum game - rpj316 - 05-02-2017 21:22 Midnight Falcon by David Gemmell A continuation of the Rigante tale which began with Sword In The Storm,Midnight Falcon is a must for fans of fantasy writing.Absorbing, interesting and as compelling as Game Of Thrones, Gemmells book evokes images of amazing battle scenes mixed with intelligent text and allegories to contemporary life. RE: Currently reading forum game - rpj316 - 24-02-2017 14:28 In The Footsteps of William Wallace by Alan Young & Michael Stead A neutral attempt at trying to piece together the infamously sketchy history of the Scottish hero's life from birth, his involvement in the rebellion against Edawad I,his defeat at Falkirk due to the invention of the long bow and his execution. RE: Currently reading forum game - rpj316 - 17-03-2017 12:38 Robert Bresson Titles One of the great directors and philosophers of cinema and an a great inspiration for French New Wave. This book collects some of his most significant inteviews, however it's Notes On The Cinematograph that stands out and reveals his doctrine the clearest. RE: Currently reading forum game - rpj316 - 11-04-2017 16:33 Star Studies : Elizabeth Taylor by Susan Smith A real standout in the star studies series that shows that all the marrisges and public scsndsl often distracted from the real reason Taylor became a star.Highlighting her tremendous performances in Giant,National Velvet and her work with Montgomery Clift that showed the actress' flair for engaging audiences in the first place. RE: Currently reading forum game - rpj316 - 27-04-2017 14:09 The Spear by James Herbert Harry Steadman investigates the disappearance of a Mossad agent and uncovers a terrifying Neo Nazi cult intent on using the spear that supposedly penetrated the abdomen of Christ during the crucifixion to resurrect members of the third Reich and unleash a dark army on the world. An incredibly creepy, violent and action packer read from the master of horror. RE: Currently reading forum game - rpj316 - 09-05-2017 15:14 Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton As much as I like Spielberg's film, for me the novel's many subplots and more interesting characters make it superior. After a slow and quite techinal orientated start,it really pics up once things get to the island.Less spectacular than the film but more thought provoking. RE: Currently reading forum game - rpj316 - 29-05-2017 19:03 The Wild Shore by Kim Stanley Robinson A group of survivors rebuild new communities after a Nuclear war but face trouble with the emergence of a new political landscape. Fantastically descriptive with engaging characters that grab your attention from the get go. |
