RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - lovebabes56 - 28-03-2017 08:46 Johanna Konta has reached Miami Open quarter-finals with 7-5 6-1 victory over Lara Arruabarrena. RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - Snooks - 29-03-2017 20:49 Konta has now beaten Simona Halep 3-6 7-6 (9-7) 6-2 to reach the semi finals in Miami. RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - Doddle - 31-03-2017 12:32 Konta beat Venus Williams in the Semis, and plays Caroline Wozniacki in the Final RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - Snooks - 31-03-2017 16:28 Terrific and brave performamce from Konta that. Had to stay tough in a lot of service games but admirably saw the job through. Miami is one of the bigger non grand slam tournaments on the circuit. If Konta can win the final it will be a significant feather in her cap. RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - mikedafc - 01-04-2017 20:02 Konta beat Wozniacki 6-4, 6-3 to win the Miami tournament RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - Snooks - 01-04-2017 20:16 That is a highly notable victory for Konta. The Miami event is a premier mandatory on the circuit so is the next level down from a Slam event. For her to win there makes a real statement. I am thrilled for her and this is an important moment for British womens tennis imo. RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - Doddle - 01-04-2017 20:32 KontaMania is running wild tonight! Woo-hoo! I don't doubt she won't be throwing football off the back pages, alas. She should be the major sport story but alas football will dominate the papers as usual no doubt RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - mikedafc - 11-04-2017 01:44 It shows how much strength in depth that France has that they had despite missing Tsonga(10), Monfils(11), Gasquet(22), Simon(30) they can turn to Pouille(17) Mahut(46) and Chardy(68). GB without Murray have only Evans(44) and Edmund(47) and then due to Bedene not being allowed to play for GB the next GB player being ranked 231 in the World RE: Tennis Discussion Thread - lovebabes56 - 11-04-2017 04:55 I think Louis was right we don't have the depth in our game especially on the men's side as we rely on Dan, James Ward, Andy & Jamie too much, while I'm sure Johanna may be inspiring more girls to take up tennis, on the men's side I don't think we have enough inspiration even though Andy is world No.1 but are we not finding enough young talent to nurture and develop for the future or is it just simply down to the fact that tennis is just not part of a school's sports curriculum any more? When we look at the French side how they can still rely on other ranked when others are missing and our next top ranked player is 231 in the world then that shows how difficult it will be for British tennis for a few years when Andy retires |
